Zahir Raheem Interview - 4/22/08
Hey Zahir, I finally got those question and we all greatly appreciate you for taking the time out of your busy schedule to answer them. Here they are :
What is your favorite fighter of all time?
Sugary Ray Robinson
How do you think you would fair in a fight with him?
Haha, No comment
What are your impressions on British Prospect Amir Kahn?
I need to see more of him.
Would you ever consider fighting him?
Sure, why not?
Manny Pacquiao is coming up to 135 to supposably clean out the division. Alot feel you would outbox him. What are your thoughts on that?
I'm glad he's moving up to 135, that means more money for me. He's not a threat at all.
Was your victory over Erik Morales your most satisfying Victory?
Well the morales fight just put a stamp on my career but it also gave me alot of false promises (a fight with manny and more big fights).
Out of all the Champions at 135, who are you most interested in fighting?
I will fight whoever wants to fight me.
Would you ever consider a fight against Ricky Hatton at 140 or is that just to big for you?
Yes, I would fight Ricky Hatton at 140.
How do you like fighting in Tulsa, Oklahoma?
Well besides the fact that tony holden does such a great job at promoting and entertaining, I love all of the support from the fans there.
You've never been known as a power puncher, but its clear that you have power, do you plan on setting down a little more in your punches through the rest of your career?
Well styles make fights i will settle down when i need to but mark breland have showed me how to get more out of each punch and it worked so now its on.
What are your current and future goals in the sport of boxing?
I will be fighting in south africa july 4th against ali funeka for the i.b.f eliminator because we lost the purse bid by 10,000 dollars.holden bid was 140,000 and the south african promoter's bid of 150,000 won them the rite to promote the fight in south africa ,so i will embark on that journey for now and come home to waite on my title shot for the i.b.f..i want to leave a legacy in the sport of boxing.......by all means
Do you believe boxing is slowing dieing as a sport, or do you think its finally headed back in the right direction?
Well i dont think boxing is dieing ,i just know that sports like mma and ufc has been very entertaining to alot of fans of boxing.
We all think its great how a great fighter like you agrees to fight on ESPN. Do you think more fighteres should follow in your footsteps?
Well it would be very smart for them because each time you are on t.v. you will gaine a fan even if its a fan that wants you to get knocked the hell out.lolol its still a fan that might by a ticket or stay at home on a sat nite to watch you win or lose.
Why did you become a boxer and what makes you love it so much?
I became a boxer because at the age of 11 i loved to fight period. and when i found the boxing gym in philadelphia whta better place to fight and not get into trouble.then i realized that i can actual fight and get attention/travel/trophies and money need i say anymore?
All of us at boxingforum. com would like to wish you luck in your next fight and we are all very greatful that you took the time out to answer these questions. Thanks again Champ.
Thank you.
