The Official Boxing Forum Interview with Lance Anderson by Don Steinburg - 4/30/08

About how many fight videos do you have? About how many do you sell in a year?
I own a little over 5000 fights in my collection. I have them all on dvd and in cases. I can send you a picture of my collection if you'd like. I sell/trade about 10 careers sets a month I would say. So I would say I distribute about 120 career sets a year which would be around 6000 fights.

To get fights, do you mostly buy or trade?
I spent around 1000 dollars to start my collection and get it started back in 2004. I bought an ali set, a tyson set, a jones set, a leonard set and a prince naseem hamed set for starters. Since then I havent bought a single fight, I trade with many other traders.

Is there an online bulletin board where you trade?
I'm a moderator at Boxingforum.com which is a free forum to talk boxing. I do alot of trades and alot of sales through this. Its an easy and free way to advertise my website and my business.

Do you try to complete or fill out career sets for fighters?
I do. I have about 50 competed career sets as of now. I love catching fighters just starting out on espn or hbo like yurikis gamboa or andre berto. I can catch all their fights and build a collection of my own from the beginning of their career.

Are you in contact a lot with other people who buy sell and trade?
I'm in contact with at least 20 people who I bought from, sell and trade with. They are all good, hard working people will real jobs outside their small business. It's all just a hobby for us and we really just like watching boxing. You can never get enough of it in my opinion.

Do you ever hear about HBO or boxing promoters trying to stop people from trading or selling fight vidoes?
I've never heard about it to be honest. It's not like im cheating them. I still purchase every single PPV that hbo offers or that Showtime offers. I would gladly buy fights from hbo or showtime if they sold them on dvd. The quality would be slightly better than what I get from my dvd recorder.

Do you wonder why promoters or networks don't sell fight videos themselves the way the UFC does?
I do. Everytime I go in a local movie store they always have a ton of dvd's on the latest UFC match or the latest WWE match. I could honestly care less about those events. I own the few boxing things they have on dvd like roy jones greatest hits or mike tyson man or machine. But these are distributed by square ring productions ( roy jones promotional agency ) and Tysons people. I leave it up to people like me to spread the word of boxing because they networks dont seem to care that much. I don't need the money, but blank dvd's do get expensive and so does shipping to places like england. So I do have to charge a price, plus my time is very valuable to me. I figure I'm doing more good for the sport of boxing, than bad.
Thanks.
