I use them to cover the floor of my gym. I box on them, lift on them, jump rope on them, and etc. Each one is fairly big, but to have adequate jump roping space I suggest you get about four, yeah their expensive, but worth it. Their about an inch thick, not to soft and not to hard, made of a hard rubbery foam. There really isn't much else I can elaborate on, these are simply the best mats your gonna be able to find.
