I think I'm going to go with the G&S gloves. After reading Don Flamenco's comments I decided to phone G&S and ask a few more questions. The guy there said their pro gloves use materials that were as highend as any $120-$150 gloves. Their overhead is very low since they've been in the same store forever, they don't really spend on advertising and promoting. I asked about style of gloves and he said these days their gloves have that precurved shape that most modern gloves have, to a certain extent. He said they build them on the snug side to stretch and form around the users hand so they become a perfect fit regardless of whether you have a large hand(that stretched more), or a small hand(which won't mold as much). That's what he said anyways and that's why they call them form fitting, kind of a custom fit. I asked him if they were bulky or streamlined and he said they were a little more sleek than alot of gloves. I also asked him about the balance of the gloves since Don Flamenco mentioned they were a bit more "top heavy" than Reyes and he said they are an all around balanced glove, not forward weighted. I guess after wearing Reyes any glove would seem to have more padding upfront. He also said they only carry them in black because they use high grade leather and like to keep things simple(and probably cheaper priced).
Now here's some number crunching I did. The G&S were $65, plus he said if I paid $25 they would ship it U.S. postal service which would be less expensive. I wanted to avoid UPS and such because they charge brokerage fees for duties and customs. This way the gloves get mailed to my house, although there isn't the same protection with tracking and the sort. The total will be $90, or $105 Canadian.
My second choice, the FightingSport gloves from Title, were going to be $100 plus Title would only ship them UPS or FedEx, I forget which, plus any duties and customs for a minimum of $145, or $167 Canadian. Quite a difference. And of course Reyes would have been alot more than that, probably close to double the cost of the G&S gloves.
Maybe I'm cheap but all in all I think the G&S gloves will have what my son's looking for and are a great price if they indeed are comparable quality wise to the much more expensive gloves. And if not I haven't paid a huge sum.
