In my opinion you have to have a trainer if you want to compete. Boxing is a very difficult sport. It involves timing, footwork; defense as well as throwing punches. All this has to be done without even thinking about it. If you decide to just go out there and “bang away” like a tough guy, you will just end up making the other guy look good and get beat up. That doesn’t sound like fun. I am glad the video inspired to you keep pursuing, I would just encourage you to do it the right way.

Thanks Eric. I do plan on getting a trainer. Actually my wife says I am not allowed to box unless I have been in touch with a trainer. How long did you work with the trainer? I am actually going on a cruise next week and on the Freedom of the Seas ship they have a boxing gym so was plan on taking some lessons and then following up with finding a trainer at home. Was hoping April, May and June would be enough time with trainer.
How many days a week did you work with your trainer? Did he give you things to do at home without him?
I had a buddy who trained me back in 1997 and then I fought at bar one night. I fought against a guy who wasn't doing the right way and I knocked him out in the 2nd round. I totally agree that boxing has to be done the right way or you don't stand a chance.
Thanks.
