Shoulder pain with hooks

I've been getting shoulder pain coinciding with/resulting from throwing left hooks (I'm right handed). Is there any fundamental technique mistake that leads to this? Or anything in general?

Also, icing it hasn't really been doing anything for it, and it isn't visibly swollen. How do ya'll take care of this?

Thanks a bunch.

After working it a little more, it seems like te range of motion, even at full speed, doesn't cause much pain, but the impact with the bag does. the impact pain isn't there for jabs though. Dunno if that's helpful.

I have this, BUT only with hooks, maybe we're doing the wrong technique in hooking?

It just started happening in my right shoulder for body shots. I'm working away from my trainer at the moment, so I have a feeling that may be it.

Actually it's not the impact which hurts me it's the range of motion.

i have had the same problem, but it seems to have reduced over time. just giving it a few days rest helps, but i can't tell if it's something i should get looked into.

the shoulder pain is your body basically telling you to stop throwing punches, give it a rest.

does anybody know of ways on improving shoulder endurance?

I too have this problem from time to time. The best advice is to strengthen the rotator cuff muscles of your shoulders, particularly the two rotator cuff muscles in the back of the shoulder. Look up the exercises online and perform them at the end of every boxing workout. There is a "shoulder horn" device that you might want to look into that helps you exercise the back of the rotator cuff muscles. I looked at one but didn't want to give the money for it and just did the exercise the device is for without it. I noticed an improvement in the shoulders after two or three weeks.

thanks OKMike, i checked it out online, and this is the first excersize i got for the rotator cuff muscles;

YouTube - Rotator Cuff Exercise Routine For Rotator Cuff Injury

it is a vid for body building but i'll give it a go next time i go training anyway.
