A Perfect Rematch

On September 29, 2007 the world witnessed Kelly "The Ghost" Pavlik dethrown former undisputed, undefeated Middle Weight champion Jermaine "Bad Intentions" Taylor. It was the first bout between these two which was appropriately labeled "A Perfect Matchup", and apparently, it was indeed just that. One champion, his challenger, and the undisputed Middle Weight title on the line. The result of this fight was not just another win on an undefeated record, or the first loss to a reigning champion. It was a piece of boxing's destiny unveiling itself to us in a classic tale right before our very eyes. Luckily for us, it won't be the last we see of these men.

Tomorrow, Febuary 16, the world will witness another showdown between Jermaine Taylor and Kelly Pavlik. This time the fight labeled "The Epic Battle Continues" promises to live up to it's hype just as the first one did. Taylor is back with his childhood trainor, Ozell Nelson, and vowed to get his revenge. He claims that though his former trainor, the legendary Emanuel Steward is as great as his reputation says, that their partnership didn't quite find it's niche while they were together. Pavlik seems to have the same mindframe he went into the first fight with, and has told the fans to expect the same performance from him as well.

This fight will be fought at a catch weight of 166 lbs in a none-title event. There are different opinions as to which one of these men that will benifit, but one thing remains as sure as ever. That is that both these men will go into that ring for a second time and try their best to prevail. Both have something to prove. Pavlik wants to show the boxing world that he is not a one hit wonder as his few detractors may suggest, and Taylor will have to prove him wrong. This time the spotlight shines bright on both fighers equally.

Overall, Febuary 16, 2008 should hold a night to remember. Whatever hand is raised in victory, be it Pavlik's or Taylor's, they both have something to be proud of. This isn't Robinson-Lamotta, or Ali-Foreman. This is Pavlik-Taylor. History in the making, and truely an epic battle set for the ages. The fights they have involed themselves in are part of what makes boxing reign supreme over all other combat sports. Tune in and don't miss it!

Long live the fistic arts
