My Shevlin and Casanova

Well, mostly Shevlin's since I haven't had enough time with the Casanova's to properly break them in yet.

I got the Shevlin's with the Velcro strap and tan tops - brown palms. You can customize them any way you want and their customer service is great.

I am barely 130 lbs, but my gym recommended me getting 16 oz gloves for some reason. Since having smaller hands, I asked the good people at Shevlin to make me some gloves that are 16 ounces but are 14 oz profile and they extra stuffed them to make the 16 ounces and fit nice and sug on my hands.

These gloves are different. They come very easy to make a fist and even open your palms when parrying. No need to break these in. The surface on the knuckles naturally make a pop when you hit. It is not curved like a Mexican style glove that you see in the red gloves in the pic (Casanova's 14 ounces). They are extremely well on your hands. The compartment is made with cotton so it doesn't feel like all the other gloves out there and it is a nice snug fit, unlike the Casanova's which I can't even feel my knuckles touching the end of the glove compartment, if that makes any sense. The only thing that could make these gloves perfect is if the wrist support was a little better and they last my whole boxing life and obviously I don't know if they will so I would have to go with the former. I got these gloves with the strap but there are the laces as well, so I don't know if it was the extra stuffing that they makes the gloves fat around my wrists...there is some room there. I think it would be better if they were nice and tight in that are like my Casanova's which feel like i have a cast on my wrist when i use them. I have never had any wrists problems so it hasn't affected me so far.

Nice gloves!
How much did both those pairs run you?
Thinking about getting a serious new pair sometime soon.
Thinking either Reyes, Casanova, or Shevlin.

Reyes is great on quality, they are puncher's gloves, which will give me an edge if I use them in interclubs/smokers. The drawbacks are that the ones from Ringside don't fit me very well at all - the hand compartment's just too wide & I don't like when I can't feel the padding over my knuckles (I have the same issue with a pair of 16oz Grants). Finding Mexican market gloves can be tricky - assuming the hand compartment is shaped any better on them. They're expensive and I hear the velcro ones just aren't worth getting.

Casanova has many of the same qualities as the reyes glove, but even harder to find and no velcro whatsoever. Would you say the hand compartment is shaped any better?

The shevlin's look beautiful, but what do they cost?
Pop-wise, are they in the same league as a mexican style glove?
Or more of a sweetheart glove like Ringside or Winning?

Well, I really don't have much experience with Reyes gloves other than the ones I got my older bro for Christmas. One complaint I would have with them is the thumbs. They just feel out of place too me. Maybe the gloves weren't made for someone with my hands, but they are very uncomfortable from trying them on. I couldn't tell you if my Shevlin's have more or as much pop as the Reyes. The shevlin's are super soft and ar an old school type glove and not of the Mexican Variety. The leather on the Shevlin's are very soft and comfy. Also, I've been wondering about the wrist support on the gloves lately and The Reyes definitely does not have the same wrist support as my Casanova's.

Cleto's and Casanova's

As for those Casanova's, they are huge in the pocket. They also don't have attached thumbs (reason they are now illegal... makes you wonder why they just attached them after the rule changes) but the thumbs aren't gonna poke someone in the eye anyway. The leather feels like the Cleto's but the wrist support is awesome. I've only had these a couple of weeks so I couldn't tell you how the quality is.

these last set are of my G&S' and Casanova's. G&S is an old school boxing equipment manufacturer from New York City. In fact, they still have the same store on the lower east side if you are ever in town. They do not hand make the gloves anymore like they once did. I asked the owner why and he said they never made gloves as good as these that they know get made over seas. These gloves I have are my sparring only glove @ 16 ounces. They have many different types of gloves there and these ones that I got are curved, kinda like a Mexican type glove. The leather on these is softer and the clothe in the pocket is just like the Shevlin's. They are cotton like canvas that are awesome. The pockt on them fit me perfectly and the wrist support is a little better than The Cleto's, but not as good as the Casanova's. I wonder if I got some 14's they would be even better.

The Shevlin's were a little under a hundred and the cleto's and casanova's were both around $125. The G&S gloves were $50 and for that price they can't be beat. :: G & S ::

KShaft is slowly learning the basics
Those look like my G&S gloves I paid 65$ for.

The G&S gloves are damn sweet. The leather is top notch and it is a pretty protective glove as well. I was very impressed with them.

Me too. I kinda wish I have them in 14 ounces though.

Update on the Shevlin's. Some sititching near the thumb area has cause the leather to rip. I emailed Monica over at Shevlin and she said just send them back so they can get fixed. Not realy sure if it's due to them being extra stuffed, but it's nice to know that they stand behind their product.
