Question Will Tae Kwon Do help me in boxing?

Hey,
I've been doing tae kwon do since i was five and have a black belt. I've been wanting to get into boxing and I was wondering if my tae kwon do experience would help me at all in boxing?

Take up boxing and you'll soon find out.

You shouldn't have any problems picking up boxing if your willing to "unlearn" a few things. I took up boxing after taking karate, and it took me a little while to throw a punch without chambering the fist to my side. If you have an open mind, you'll be fine

You can't be tempted to kick, and you will have to learn to keep your hands up by your cheek bones and your chin tucked down.

Thumbs up

It wont help you in boxing trust me but if youre a fighter, or you come from a tough city do it . Learn whatever you can, cause some people like to fight you for no reason. I was in Tae Kwon do when I was 12 And I fought like that for a long time and I still like to use the kicks I learned. I want to learn Mui Thai Kickboxing, Thats the ultimate standing up fighting style. But yea, if u want to be a boxer, no. If you want to be a fighter, yes.

I’ve heard this, but never seen a decent explanation. Could you very kindly tell me what ‘chambering’ a punch actually involves?

Basically it's just bringing your fist down to your hip and then throwing a punch. Alot of karate and TKD schools advocate this type of punching in their kata and kumites.

Question

Cheers for that! And what advantages does it have over the ‘short’ punches taught in boxing?
