I'll be going to a gym in a week and was wondering what type of equipment i should buy since i need my own.

If you are just starting and don't have a trainer, only worry about hand wraps for now. You wont be doing any sparring and gloves are almost always provided for you. Wear something comfortable. As your work out progresses then you will need to pick up equipment.

This may be a Mr. Obvious comment but if you're not sure if they have water, make sure to bring your own on the first day.

Oh, and good advice above. Handwraps are provided your first time at my gym, but every gym is different. Some make you bring your own gloves, and handwraps, but like TripleA said above, most provide gloves. Good luck, and expect an "intense" workout. =)
