Rival Elite Bag Gloves review

Rival Elite Bag Gloves from Title Boxing

Ordered a pair from Title Boxing, friend is using them as well, both the red and 14 oz versions. Both of us are very impressed with the gloves and love using them. I am upgrading from the black 14oz Everlast durahide bag gloves. Been using the Rivals for a couple weeks now.

Build Quality:
The leather isnt too soft nor too rough and it feels durable just picking it up. It feels like a good quality leather car seat, and smell nice too. Leather dye is very deep and bold, more like the red leather seats in a sportscar. Rival designs and logos make it very attractive looking. Stitching quality is excellent, some parts are double lined and double stitched for the critical areas that have to stay together. For example, on top of the leather for the velcro straps they placed a layer of material that is stitched down before applying the velcro straps. This should provide very good durability rather than straight velcro on leather, and they are applied to critical and high stress areas, mainly around the velcro straps and wrists. Rival logo and designs are applied well, if you touch them it feels like the logos aint coming off any time soon. Which is a good thing.

Inner lamination is very silky and just the right amount of laminate is sewn in so youre not grabbing a chunk of inner lining when youre punching. My durahides were like that I didnt like that feature. That should also increase the durability of the inner lining since it wont be tugged around as much. You can again feel the stitching quality inside holding down the laminate.

Support:
The biggest noticable feature of this is the 15 degree angled wrist strap. I was hesitant about this before but after putting them on the way they felt meant business. It has two velcro straps one that velcros below wrists, and another to wrap on top of the wrists. However this makes it tougher to put on if youre by yourself. I use my mouth to bite the straps to apply them so it doesnt bother me. Im sure most of y'all are doing something similar already if you're training by yourself. In addition, there is a good chunk of padding around the the wrist area, where it says Ergo Strap in the above picture. So as a result the wrist support is excellent on this glove. My wrists feel a lot more secure and straight during punches. I estimate theres around 1.5" of pure padding for the fist area. My hands would feel a bit worn out on the previous gloves. With the thicker padding on the Rivals, I did some more intensive punch sessions but my hands didn't feel worn out like they used to. My trainer says my punches feel more solid and powerful on the mitts, I think I can feel it too through the gloves.

Fitment:
I'm a smaller person ~120 lbs, therefore I have small hands. Everlast durahides were just huge on my hands, there was a lot of free space inside so my hands didnt feel as secure/snug as I had liked even with wraps. These Rival gloves are smaller than the durahides, with wraps the fit feels snug, but not overly tight. Gloves feel a lot more part of my hands now instead of a bit loose. As a result it feels night and day better when training on bags or mitts. When making a fist it feels a lot more ergonomic than my previous gloves, especially in the thumb area. My friend ~155 lbs is a bit bigger than me so his hands are obviously bigger, but they fit him snug and great as well.

Conclusion:
As you are wondering "Are these worth the $85" I say yes they definately are, everything just feels a lot better than some less expensive pair, you really do get what you pay for with these gloves. You can see why they cost 85 from the build quality, moreso when you put them on, and especially when you hit with them. I am very impressed with these. Friend is very impressed with them as well. I highly recommend these if you are looking for a high quality bag glove.

excellent review, my friend! They look pretty sweet in the red as well. I always wondered about the wrist support, since that was one of their selling features, but glad to hear they live up to the hype.

Is there a difference between these and the "Ultra" ones?

ultra ones have some meshed palm to cool the hand. The ultra doesnt have the 15 degree strap. I havent tried Ultras so cant comment on those

How about a quick update now that youve gotten some more use on them since break in. How are they holding up?

they are holding up well, im still very satisfied, they fit my fists much better than my old ones. Only small annoyance is the white band gets scuffed with black marks from mitts and bags but thats no big deal, its only on my jab hand anyways heh
