If Mayweather-Martinez happens, it should be at 154, but to be honest I'm not sure if Sergio could make 154 anymore without consequences. He has been at middleweight for a while and has looked like he finally finished filling out to middleweight in his last three fights or so.

I agree Bill getting down to 150 would be insane. I think Sergio can make 154. He weight 158 for Chavez I think. But how his performance will be during fight time who knows. Look what catchweights did to Chad Dawson. The first sign of a weight drained fighter are when his legs buckle under punches he would normaly take easliy,no?

Weight drained fighters are weak, their punches lack the power they normally carry, they fatigue easier, and they just all around are weaker. Can't take the punishment they usually can take, can't sustain the attack they usually can, and they don't punch with as much force as they usually do.
Prime examples are De La Hoya against Pac and Dawson against Ward.

What about the other side of the coin? If a fighter (in this case Mayweather) goes up in weight, what are the primary effects he may face?
Less speed?
More power?
I know it would be different for every person, I'm talking about what usually happens.

Usually the problems with moving up in weight are slowed reflexes, reduced stamina and endurance, punches don't affect the bigger guys as much, and the legs don't work as good as they usually do.

LOL this is all a waste of breath. Mayweather won't go near Martinez at 154 - you just have to listen to the guy dodge and duck when pressed on Martinez. He won't go near Pacquiao either. Those 2 are too big a threat. Martinez is fighting in April and then will have a rematch with Chavez Jr later in 2013...then he'll be 40. Mayweather may not even be fighting anymore. As for Mayweather, his plans entail:
- Avoid Martinez - easy to do as not as much media pressure
- Keep quiet about Pacquiao because he has no room to manoevre into now in terms of his media response to Pacquiao calling him out and calling him "scared" on national TV. Speak up after the Pacquiao Marquez fight and pray to God that Marquez wins the fight so he has a good excuse to get out of it again. If Pacquiao wins expect the old "Bob Arum" excuse to surface constantly as those are always the 2 words Floyd runs to when money and RBT questions beat him.
- Hope Cotto puts in a reasonable performance against Trout and defend his Super WBA title against the interim champ in a rematch which is easy money against a shot fighter and won't threaten his 0.
- Then maybe either fight Canelo (unless the latter starts looking too good) and call it a day

I honestly don't know what to say anymore to people who still blame Floyd for the Pac fight not happening...
Regarding Sergio, Floyd has already shown interest in the fight and I would not be surprised if it ends up happening next year if Sergio's injuries heal and Sergio is able to stay in top form.

We won't get into Pacquiao-Mayweather thing. Mayweather first brought up RBT to Pacquiao as a means to insinuate he was on drugs. Since then he's applied it to other boxers (he kind of had to after Pacquiao)...since then RBT agreed, now purse is a problem when it never used to be. Most recently it's the Bob Arum excuse - funny how Bob Arum has always been there so if that was a showstopper why bother demanding the other things? I really don't know what to say either
Can you show me some quotes where Mayweather shows interest in Martinez?
Mayweather on fighting Martinez at 154:
Floyd Mayweather "Sergio Martinez is possible at a catchweight, he should fight Andre Dirrell" - YouTube
"Sergio Martinez would be a good fight with Andre Dirrell....my focus is Miguel Cotto"
"...at a catchweight it's possible (no conviction in it)"
"he should go to 168 and fight Andre Dirrell"
I don't know what to say anymore to people who live in the fantasy world that Mayweather doesn't protect that 0 and picks his opponents with that in mind.
I forgot to mention, if not Cotto he will fight Bradley instead. That way he gets Pacquiao's old belt, fight a slow guy with no power who can't hurt him and then has bragging rights saying "He beat the guy who beat Pacquiao"...
So it's Bradley or Cotto next for Mayweather...there will be no dangerous opponent

The Bradley theory is quite logical, I think that's the reason hidden in Bradley's decision of not fighting on december.
By the way, it would be a boring fight, very one-sided.

Couldnt of said it better myself Bill. But Pac never wobbled Oscar he jus twas old and skinny. This is exactly why one of the first signs is the legs after he takes a punch. The reason I mention Dawson is he I saw him take shots from Pascal and not wobble but Ward whos not a big puncher and hurt his hand in his previous fight was able to shake Dawsons foundation. The legs! Thats your core that you work off of I would guess. But if they do end up making a fight at 150 I would loose respect for Martinez. Hes still has time. But to be honest I dont think Floyd is intrested in fighing him. BUT I said the same about him never fighting Cotto. Hes just trying for the money now. **** that. Floyd is filled out to be a pretty big welterweight. He fought Oscar.Baldomir was basicly a 154 also.Weight in at 150 vs Cotto. Took on Cotto with no problems so I cant see why this fight CANT be made at 154 or if there is a catchweight then 156-57 would be fair. Its Martinez who needs to lose the weight not Floyd. Canello vs Martinez would ne nice at 160.Time for that boy to move up now.But not sure if Oscar can stomach his guy getting tatooed up.
