Floyd Mayweather interview after the Pac fight

By Ben Thompson

"Things happen. You live and you learn. The only thing he can do is rejuvenate himself and bounce back like a true champion," stated undefeated pound-for-pound champion Floyd Mayweather, who shared his thoughts on Manny Pacquiao's shocking 6th round knockout loss at the hands of Juan Manuel Marquez. Although he has yet to actually see the fight, Mayweather praised the performances of both fighters and offered some words of advice for the 8-division world champion.

"Marquez is a true champion, Manny Pacquiao is a true champion, both of them went out there and put on a good performance, and that's a good thing for the sport of boxing," Mayweather commented. "I wish Pacquiao nothing but the best. I wish that he can bounce back and he can recoup from this. In the sport of boxing, you have to really dedicate yourself to your craft. You have to really, really dedicate yourself to your craft. I think he's got so many different things on the outside that he worries about, you know. But it was a good thing that he was able to come into the sport, you know, piggyback off my name, and get a bunch of endorsement deals and make a good living. That's a great thing."

As far as the mega-fight with the Filipino icon is concerned, Mayweather suggests the manner in which Pacquiao was knocked out probably means he has a lot more to think about, and a long way to go, before that fight is ever a possibility again. "Pacquiao's focus should be trying to take a vacation, get his mind right, and get a few tune-up fights so he can bounce back," he explained. "I'm not here to talk bad about Pacquiao. I feel bad for him, honestly. I really feel bad for him. There's a difference in the ways you can get knocked out. See, when a guy gets knocked out and he can get up, they sit him on his stool, they rub his back, he go home and ice himself, you know, he go to the hospital and get checked out and he's okay, that's one thing. But when you gotta wake a guy up with smelling salt and he got a concussion and he gotta go to the hospital over night, that's crucial. I mean, that's close to the death."

Mayweather added, "Hopefully he's okay. My prayers go out to the Pacquiao family. I know he loves the sport of boxing, so hopefully he can bounce back."

Floyd showing some class...and hinting that he'd still take the Pac fight if the money is still good. Although, I don't know how he could "praise the performances of both fighters" when he hasn't even seen the fight

Mayweather was actually being gracious in this interview, ........

He was being gracious to Manny telling him to take a vacation, and clear his head, you can't be at the top level with that many distractions. And how he feels terrible for him.....

Floyd knows it could happen to anyone, one day you wake up, and you cant take that punch that you walked through any other day, I'm pretty sure that hangs in the back of Floyds mind that it could happen to him also

Floyd should have taken the Pacquiao fight when it would have meant something three years ago.

Too late Floyd, you blew it with your BS. You could have made untold millions upon millions from the superfight.

Pacuiao is for all intents and purposes, not as marketable as he used to be. He would have to avenge his previous losses, which would take quite a while before Mayweather-Pacquiao reaches superfight status again.

I agree that fight is dead and buried , what would be the point? Floyd toyed with JMM and he would be a 100 to 1 favorite and Pacman could get killed if he absorbs another brutal KO,( Floyds specialty ) YOUR RIGHT !! That idiot should have taken the fight when it was at it's highest demand, 50,0000,0000 is 50,000,000 and I think he's the biggest idiot on the planet for having turned it down....or at the very least made very difficult for the other party to accept his outrageous terms and still respect themselves......

I doubt the Golden Boy would let Canelo to fight Mayweather to f*cked their money up, Canelo is suppose to be next star in the future so they don't want to risk that before they send him back to Mexico. They know Canelo isn't ready for Mayweather.

Yes but there's always the risk the party get's spoiled before they can cash in.... Happened with Victor Ortiz (who was their golden boy before Canelo came along) against an opponent he was supposed to beat before he moved on to bigger things... Yes he ended up fighting Mayweather, but not nearly in the circumstances they imagined (he was the opponent against Berto, anything after that was profit already).
Or JuanMa Lopez and Donaire/Gamboa with Salido...

Sometimes the money being great in the short future is enough to convince them to take the risk. Mayweather will fight Bradley or Guerrero next, Canelo gets to beat someone else not too threatening (might even be Cotto)... Then right there you'll have a pretty big fight

I'm not sure what kind of urine Marquez was drinking before the fight against Pacquiao but it ******* works wonders... That fool hit Pacquiao with the same damn punches the last three fights and all of a sudden he drops like that??? You guys aren't questioning anything right now??? Marquez is 39 yrs old and his last fight before Pac was on April of this year??? Where the power and stamina come from??? How do I get in contact with Marquez camp to send me a sample of his urine???

Yes, Marquez's face looks like of someone who takes stuff but what can we do? Pac's camp was fine and didnt insist on better testing A WHOLE YEAR after they first got to know Marquez was working with Memo Heredia.
