Floyd/Canelo fight almost finilized for May 4th
Source: Canelo Alvarez says he might fight Mayweather in May
Quote:
Floyd Mayweather is expected
back in the ring in May, and it could be a battle of unbeatens.
Mayweather's opponent could be Mexican superstar Saul "Canelo" Alvarez — at least according to Alvarez. And it would likely take place on Cinco de Mayo weekend.
Alvarez, 22, made an announcement on his Facebook page Thursday saying, "Our next fight is scheduled to take place on May 4, we are close to finalizing the Mayweather fight."
Alvarez (41-0-1, 30 KOs) fights for Golden Boy Promotions, which has also contracted to handle Mayweather's recent fights. Mayweather vs. Alvarez would undeoubtedly be the biggest money fight in boxing, a mega-bucks pay-per-view event that would likely bring in a huge Mexican audience.
BOXING: Pacquiao now defined by single punch
Phone calls to Golden Boy CEO Richard Schaefer were not immediately returned.
Mayweather (43-0, 26 KOs) has not fought since May 5, when he defeated Miguel Cotto by unanimous decision to take Cotto's 154-pound belt.
A month later Mayweather went to jail and served a little more than two months of a three-month sentence for domestic assault.
He also went through a highly publicized business and personal split a few months ago with longtime friend, hip hop star and entrepreneur, and now boxing promoter, 50 Cent.

Mayweather will turn 36 in February. The world's top pound-for-pound fighter tweeted Thursday that he could get back together with his father, Floyd Mayweather Sr. The two have been estranged for more than a year.
You can see Mayweather on the basketball court much sooner — Sunday to be exact, if you're in Los Angeles. He is putting on a basketball game for charity. Professional Athlete Advisors, LLC will work with Mayweather Promotions in the 8th Annual Watson Christmas Charity/Celebrity Basketball Game.
Joining him at Westchester High School (7400 W. Manchester Ave.) will be two other unbeaten boxers, Adrien Broner and Danny Garcia. Admission is $10, or $5 with a new toy donation. Doors open at 3 p.m. PT.

Canelo would be a good match up. It wont be a cakewalk for either fighter. The Mexican might just catch Floyd at the right time.

Martinez said he would make 154 to fight Floyd. But I din't think Floyd wants to fight a slick-south paw; that is a nightmare for Floyd.
Canelo is by no means an easy payday. Oh no. Canelo is looking for a big pay per view fight; he went to see the Cotto fight (Cotto looked shot) and last night Canelo was at the Khan fight. So we know that Canelo is looking for a "big name". I would love to see any combination of Trout-Canelo-Martinez-Floyd. (I don't think Khan is at their level). Too bad Trout is not a big enough name yet.
If Canelo fights Floyd, my money is Floyd. Floyd is too fast and too good a boxer. Canelo is going to have to go to the body and try to slow Floyd down. . . many try, but none have succeeded thus far.

Apparently now Canelo is a cherry pick.
Martinez is already scheduled to fight in April in Argentina.

A month ago no one in this forum thought Canelo could give Floyd a fight.
Tell your prima donna Floyd to fight Sergio before Sergio is 50 and i will start to think Floyda is a man.
