Who will win? To me a prime Roy Jones would have taken the measure of the best Joe Calzaghe. Today it may be a different story. What I feel will be Roy's downfall is his tendency to spend way too much time languishing on the ropes. This would be tactical suicide against Calzaghe. The problem is Roy may not be able to do anything about it. He can no longer move around the ring as he did in the days of old. I've noticed Calzaghe has two speeds. When he lets his hands go in flashing flurries, he keeps his opponent on the defensive. The trouble is he generates little power on those punches. In fact he has less power than Aunt Jemima flipping flapjacks. When Joe does try to set down on his punches, his hand speed diminishes quite noticeably. His power increases but not to a great extent. He is surely no Bob Foster. Jones is no Jake LaMotta when it comes to whiskers but I feel he can take Calzaghe's best.
In the end I look for Calzaghe to just outwork Roy. He does need to be wary of Roy's counter left hook off the ropes. Jones can give Joe a lot of problems with that punch. I think Joe wins a decision with a few points to spare. Maybe a late round stoppage. I just hope as a fan it is a better fight to watch than the Calzaghe - Hopkins slap and grab contest.
I don't agree with Cal stopping RJ...if anyone were going to stop anyone it would be Roy putting the stop sign on Cal. But I did agree with most of what he said.
i feel he means a tko than a ko when he says stoppage. i know it will be a better fight than hopkins and calz. they both will throw punches lol.
the thing is, i think if roy was on the ropes, he would get a shot on joe. how many times we seen roy hit when he's on the back foot. roy can hit you with a lot of shots, he's just got that talent. this is why i feel joe will be smart and not lung into a shot like the hopkins one.

put it this way, if joe stands in front of jones, then jones will pretty much push him back. he was making tito look like a bitch, but tito was game. i am pretty much sure that if jones doesn't chase, then he won;t take the belt away. you gotta impress to take things away from the champ.
i hope i don't sound like a nuthugger, but i feel joe can box with roy. he likes to jab and then go in and out. sometimes he ups it and throws a combo. if he can do it every round, then he will look good and win the rounds. roy has the speed from a standstill, but joe has the speed in terms of swarming so i do get what you mean abotu him winning that way, yet i feel joe will respect joens power and not risk getting caught. swarming works for b and c level fighters, but not a jones. jones is good enough to connect.
in recent times, i have noticed that joe calz is more effective when he jabs and boxes, and counters people who come at him. he can't go chasing people who are a level,. i just feel it will play into their hands than his. this can be said to roy aswell. i mean roy looked ok vs tito, he did let tito come forward, but tito is abit rusty and was always in front. joe has head, body and his feet moving all the time. that's why i feel the fight will be close. it's all about tactics and who can do what.
i don;t see it as a mismatch at all. how can you when it's roy jones. plus he was injured vs tito and still won easily.
I just wish that the compubox is more careful on what punches land...slapping needs to be its own separate category. For example against B-Hop, Cal landed more slaps...not the more effective punches (which I thought boxing was all about). I've never really seen someone slap somebody else in the ring for points...I just haven't. And its almost disgraceful.
Just because you don't chase him doesn't mean you aren't the aggressor. If Cal is coming at RJ and RJ is countering the snot out of Cal...the judges have to give it to Roy.
Haha nah you don't sound like a nuthugger but Cal can't box with RJ in the middle of the ring...plain and simple. NO ONE has been able to box with RJ in the middle of the ring...not B-Hop...not James Toney...NO ONE. Calzaghe isn't the exception. Roy simply just gets off so much quicker than Cal and everyone else. Plus the punches coming from odd angles are going to give Cal problems also. The way Cal can neutralize Roy's speed is to crowd him and pressure him and hold him...that's the only way. The tapes he needs to watch is how B-Hop fought RJ back in the day because he almost fought a perfect fight but RJ had soo much more skill over B-Hop back in the day and that's why he outpointed him. Crowd RJ or pressure him in someway or Cal will face the consequences. I agreed with most of what you said by the way.

roy will always get off quicker than joe, but i see that when people wait. joe is soemone who throws a lot of punches a round. this comes from constant jabs, which mean roy won't be the first guy to punch. when someone waits, and both punch, roy will 100% be the winner. if the jabs don't connect then the left from roy is one to watch. if calz isn't jabbing then his hands are held up very high. just by punching a lot, even not hitting is enough to unsettle people. i hear you when you say you can;t stand in the middle and outbox roy. but i also feel that joe is the best when he is being chased. he judges your movement and then comes back in and hits and runs. roy does like to let people come at him and then he gets them too, and he is the master of it, but calzaghe simply doesn't have the game to swarm jones without a ko punch. he can try, and he sure as hel does have the speed, flurries, footwork, stamina to, but i feel roy would simply be able to hit back more easily. whereas if joe was moving around in the middle around roy, then he can not get hit as often if he was swarming. i just feel if joe swarms, he can get hurt. whereas if he boxes, he is less likely to get hit. it may sound strange since roy is super fast, but then i stll feel joe can outpunch him while moving around.

Just remember...Calzaghe winning proves nothing but if RJ wins...Calzaghe is truly a joke
well, you can't rate roy with his speed etc still and then say if joe wins it means nothing. roy aint prime, but that doesn't mean he can't beat most of the others out there. heck i would give him a shot at beating anyone at 160,168 and even 175.

True but then that takes away a possible victory (highly doubt it) against RJ in his prime. Calzaghe clearly doesn't solidify his legacy if he beats roy
