Does RJ have a chance against Calzaghe?
We all know RJ is past his prime...there's no question of that. And Calzaghe is also past his prime but it is less evident. When we run down the tale of the tape and break down each fighter...neither one has the more advantage unless we talk about punching power, punching output, mobility and skill. IMO...RJ has the more punching power and skill; but Calzaghe has the better punching output and mobility. RJ gets off quicker but Calzaghe can throw more punches at once at this point. Nevertheless it has been said that Cal cannot hurt RJ since Cal slaps. And when Cal actually does load up on his punches he is noticably slower. RJ stays on the ropes more than he should but he lands deadly left hooks in that position a la Hanshaw and Trinidad. RJ also throws deadly right hand leads that are more devastating than B-Hop's right hands. For me there is no evident advantage...I guess you can favor Cal for a UD since he could possibly out throw Roy like he did B-Hop. But how will he take those body punches and will he be able to stay from those right hand leads? How will Cal box him since RJ gets off quicker. Can RJ stay off the ropes? Will RJ be aggressive early to test Cal's chin? These are all questions that can only be answered on fight night but I want to hear some other perspectives from others and see if we can get a sensible debate going on in which we can exchange knowledge as well as educated opinions...

First of all that is a great post bro, and IMO Roy has a good chance at winning. I think Roy will take this fight as serious as any he has ever had and will come in looking better than he has in the past few years. Calzaghe will as well. For Roy to win he has to figure out some way to cut down Calzaghe's workrate. He can do this by landing accurate straight rights when Calzaghe opens up. Roy has the speed/quickness do be successful in doing so. If Calzaghe gets caught a few times early he will be a little more hesitant to let his hands go. The more he eats the less he will throw, but if Roy lays on the rops and lets Joe get into a rhythm he will be in trouble. I'm really looking forward to this fight. As of now my money is on Calzaghe, but I haven't put too much thought in to this one yet.

I say Jones will make a go of it the first half of the fight, but if he hasn't finish it by then is all down hill calzaghe's work rate will take it's toll and althoug he'll hang in there, he'll be badly faded and finished by the last round....

Thanks man. I agree . I think if the fight stays in the middle of the ring then RJ has the advantage since he gets off with the quicker more powerful punches. But like what you said...once RJ lies on the ropes he better land a left hook quick and move because that's where Cal will live up to his Mr. Compubox title and out land Roy. This is the classic battle of styles. I can't wait for this fight to be official. Of course I'm going for RJ since I'm a fan of his but I definitely favor Cal if he starts off well early and gets into a rhythm.

I agree, plus RJ should look more improved from the RJ-Tito fight since he has had a lot of time to recover from that torn bicep injury.

I'd love nothing more than to see Roy stop Calzaghe or dominate him. I'll be rooting for Roy as well.

It's going to be hard to cheer fpr RJ (since I'm a B-Hop fan) but I gotta see Calzaghe go down since I feel cheated from the B-Hop-Calzaghe fight.

You think you could make a positive post or are you just an all around hater of everything? You remind me of someone else on this board.

My personal opinion for what its worth is I do not think Roy JonesJr should be in this fight. He spent years ducking and dodging the more dangerous opponents till he got caught up with.since his 3 losses in a row he's fought two journeymen and an overweight tito who hadnt fought in over 2 1/2 yrs. fight someone worthy calzaghe
