It could be the cause, but the bottom line is that whenever some nut has his mind made up that he's going to go on some random killing spree, he's gonna do it. Over in China recently some guy took out like 9 random people with a knife before he got captured.

The media giving so much attention (for obvious reasons) to these events might be inspiring nuts out there to go and join in, but I don't see any real way to prove it.
