Bill, Rocky fought his 1st top 10 contender in his 26th bout when he won a close split decision against LaStarza. He fought another 10 bouts before he fought another top 10 contender when he stopped Rex Layne. When he fought Moore that was only the 11th time Rocky ever fought a boxer that was rated in the top 10 when he fought them.

Come on guys, everyone knows that Rocky fought in a weak era.

Any boxing expert would say the same thing as I have stated. Again, it's not Rocky's fault that he fought in that era, BUT he did and that is why MOST boxing experts and historians rate him where they do.

No, it's a lot of Boxing Experts & Historian that say the same thing.

Bert Sugar stated it on ESPN when he was rating his top 10 Heavyweights. He was asked how come he still rates Rocky so high and he said, because of his record, BUT he fought in a very weak era.

John Durant author of The Heavyweight Champions wrote in 1971 (pg 123,) “Critics do not rate Rocky with the great ones, like Jeffries, Johnson, Dempsey, Tunney, and Louis. He never faced topnotch fighters like they did. It was not Rocky’s fault, of course, that there was not much talent when he was fighting. He fought them all and that is what a champion is supposed to do.”

Sry for the double post but anyway, Henry very interesting to read that article by Monte.D.cox and he made some very solid points, and i remember rating Rocky as my nr.3 hw of all time but when i think about it ive only seen about 4 fights with him and the rest was hype. There has been prob a month or something since i did my lsit but ive wathec alot of boxing in this month including Jack Dempsey, Jack Johnson and a Larry holmes documentary and now my lsit looks like this.
