I hate it when they use formulas and such, they typically develope terrible lists. Just look at boxrec's list, it's known as one of the worst around.

Boxrec's list is AWFUL.
I'd say the greatest of all time was Sugar Ray Robinson. I don't think it's debateable really.
My personal favourites:
Bernard Hopkins
De La Hoya
Roy Jones Jr
Felix Trinidad
Jersey Joe Walcott
Pernell Whitaker
Ezzard Charles
Winky Wright
Mike Tyson
Larry Holmes
Marvin Hagler

Boxrec is the joke (list wise) of the boxing sites. It is very useful for records and such, but other than that it is pretty much crap.
I think it is very debateable that Robinson is #1. He is overrated many times. Some people make it seem he was the best at every aspect.

but he was great nether the less, in my view its obviously very hard to define "the greatest of all time"
i mean most average boxing fans will recognise this title as being Muhammed Ali,
other boxing enthusiasts, will mention names such as Sugar Ray Robinson and Rocky Marciano.
i mean muhammed ali was one of the most exciting fighter to watch, even the build up to his fights were exciting, his antics have been copied in so many ways,
for example floyd mayweather, copies Ali's arrogance and self-confidence/belief.
Bernard Hopkins also tries to attract more fans with his self-belief and war of words before big battles.
sugar ray robinson was the most competitive boxer ever, he fought over 100 times, fighting 2-3 times a month, is alone something special win or loose, but he managed to win many bouts with a very high Ko ratio.
its hard to choose,

Yeah, I agree with you on that one. Every boxer is unique in their own way and like you say, it's Hopkins self-belief, war of words and his ability to break and opponent down in the ring that makes me like him so much.

Robinson was the greatest welterweight of all time, but as far as P4P, IMO it's Willie Pep. 230-11-1. Over 100 of his wins were after his plane crash which took a ton out of him. After the plane crash, he wasn't supposed to live. He lived. He wasn't supposed to walk. He walked. He wasn't supposed to fight again. He had over 100 more fights. He went 63-0-0 before his first loss, and he had 4 very dirty (mainly because of Saddler) fights with Sandy Saddler even after he was far past his prime. In the 2nd match with Sandy he showed glimpses of his prime self and out boxed Saddler in one of the greatest boxing performances ever displayed.
