I tell you what, when I watched IN SLOW MOTION Barkley hitting Duran so bloody hard he spun him, I was horrified. It was brutal and nasty. It is a complete mystery to me how Duran survived those punishing cruel blows. What do you think, how tough was Duran! But how about the knock down! What a magnificent series of precise combos. Given the odds against Duran ever beating Barkley and winning the middleweight crown, this win must rank as one of the greatest wins in the history of the sport. It was in fact a peerless performance. The one and only time a lightweight won the middleweight crown.

A couple of other observations, Duran was in amazing shape for the Hagler fight. He looked fanastic. It's a pity he hurt his hand in the 5th rd and tired out by about the 14th rd. It was a great performance nevertheless. Also have you ever seen a more vicious display of body punching than the Davy Moore fight. I don't think so. I tell ya, I almost weep for poor Davy Moore. I'm not a wimp, but even I find the 7th and 8th rds hard to watch. It was devastating.

Well i grew up watching Roberto and had the pleasure of meeting him briefly in the airport. He was very nice to me when we me so i can't say he was a jerk to me at least. I do believe he has mental issues anger management being one of them.

Trust me, Duran is an official hispanic, the type you don't want in the boxing ring, something like Mayorga but stronger and harder. Like people say, its the machismo in him that had him acting that way

Most great fighters have tempers and a certain mentality. The mentality that they don't care who you are, they're gonna win. I love this quote from Carmen Basilio about fighting Robinson for the first time: "I knew he was bigger, stronger, faster, taller, and had a lot more experience than me...but I was gonna kick his ass!" That is the perfect example of this mentality. I sort of think Duran does some of the macho stuff just to try to keep a certain image that he wants portrayed about him, even after he is dead. I don't think he is like that at home when it's just him and his family. He obviously had a fire inside him that was incredible in the ring though. That's one of the reasons why it was so shocking when he quit during the Leonard fight, even though he was complaining of cramps and had to take a dump really bad during the fight. A lot of times when 2 great or well known fighters meet for the first time it is like a standoff, and Roberto when in public, goes looking for those standoffs a lot. He just has a macho attitude in public and that's that.

A show for the cameras. Cameras change many people, including Muhammad Ali.
