Larry Holmes was a great fighter. Michael Spinks was a great fighter. Willie Pep ... was a great fighter.
My father was a sparring partner for Wille Pep back in the 1950's when Wille Pep came to Texas .... and was preparing for an upper coming world title fight ... to defend his title here.
At the time my father had not turned pro ... as of yet (he turned pro in 1955). At the time that happened my father was the Texas lightweight golden gloves champion that year.
Many believe Willie Pep ... was the greatest around featherweight champion ... in the history of boxing.
I was not old enough at the time to have really be able to seen Willie Peps fights. But all the old school handlers and trainers I had ever known at least had said that about Wille Pep ... including my dad. And that Wille Pep was a really nice guy!
Any fighter who fights long enough is going to lose a fight no matter how good a fighter they may be.
