Hatton: "Pressure is off!", Graham: "Ricky's still the best!"

Just found this. He told the MEN paper last week that his welterweight adventure might of been a "blessing in disguise".

Quotes

Hatton

"That wasn't the real Ricky Hatton (against Collazo), watch any fight of mine and then watch that and you'll see no snap by comparison."

"But maybe it was a blessing in disguise because people on both sides of the Atlantic now have wrote me off and it has taken a lot of pressure off me to be honest. I can just knuckle down and do my thing and because the expectancy has dropped I'll be praised whatever I do, and I plan on doing some destruction jobs and really looking the part."

"What people don't realise is that it usually takes two or three fights to grow into a new weight division, not six or seven weeks. I was basically a blown-up light-welterweight, it's as simple as that!"

"I feel hungry again like I did after the Vilches fight - needing to prove doubters wrong - and look what I went on to achieve after that: a couple of blockbuster performances and then the big win against Kostya. More of the same is in order: a couple of fights to make people sit up and take notice again and then try to knock Mayweather off the top of the tree like I did Tszyu."

"I don't think Carlos Baldomir has anything to trouble Floyd to be honest, other than sheer size and strength to be honest. I think Mayweather will be far too fast for him and make him look pedestrian."

Graham

"You won't find a fighter on the entire bloody planet who could win a world title in their first fight in a new weight division while still able to make the weight below without a problem. I don't recall anybody ever doing that. Floyd Mayweather was forced to move up because his body outgrew light-welterweight, but TV forced Ricky Hatton to move up."

"Don't worry, Ricky is still the business! He's the king of his division. He hasn't lost anything, you don't lose tools overnight. I've still got the best fighter in the business and we're still chasing the big one, the one we've been preparing for for three or four years, Mayweather."

ill say again castillo frightened the life out of floyd and ricky's 10 times the fighter castillo is, there's only 1 winner for me and floyd knows this too that's why he'll want no part of hatton.

Am I the only one who thinks hatton sucks? I've seen two his fights so far and I didn't think much of him in either of them. The first fight I saw him in was the wrestling match against kostya. I'm sorry but I think Kostya got ripped with hattons hometown ref. He was all over him. That wasnt boxing it was grappling. Then kostya hits hatton along the belt line and the ref tells him to keep the gloves up and lets the fighting resume but as soon as he does hatton gets revenge with a punch straight to the sac. How can you not take a point for this? It was obviously retaliation.

Next I saw him fight Collazo or whatever his name is. To say the least he looked like crap. Even he admits in that the interview posted by boxing. And who is Collazo? He is a nobody and hatton is supposedly a star and barely beats him. Give me a break Hatton stinks and Pretty boy floyd would mop the floor with him if the refs wouldnt let hatton wrestle. PBF could prolly beat him even with the wrestling cause he's so slick. Thats my two cents on hatton anyway.

Well, I wouldn't say Hatton sucks, but like sliznut, I've only seen those 2 fights and I wasn't that impressed. In fact, I found the Tszyu fight very frustrating to watch, which Kostya must have been feeling too for him to quit on the stool.

I'm witholding judgement of totally dismissing the guy though until I see him fight again.. whenever that might be..

It looked like a draw to me. I couldn't believe that 2 of the judges had Hatton ahead by 3 or 4 points! They must have been taken in by his aggressiveness. Callazo put together some good punch combos in the second half to the point that he really had Hatton hurt. I don't think Callazo was given enough credit by the judges for turning that fight around.

Oh well. It's old news now I suppose.

Vs. Collazo, Hatton looked like an ordinary fighter-yeah he was pushing the fight but he couldn't handle the slick style, which is why he would lose in 4 rounds to Flo. Hatton doesn't suck but is nothing special. Fighters out of Europe have to establish themselves within the American talent pool (IMO) (see JCalzaghe) before we put them on the mantle of greatness.
