John Duddy vs “Yory Boy”.

John Duddy vs “Yory Boy”.

September 29. Madison Square Garden.

John Duddy (17-0) takes on Luis Ramon “Yory Boy” Campos (88-8) on Sept. 29 at Madison Square Garden in New York in a 12-round battle of middleweights. Duddy, a native of Derry, Ireland, could be on track for a world title fight if he beats Campos. Duddy has won his past two fights at MSG, beating Alfredo Cuevas in the 7th round on June 10 and knocking out Shelby Pudwill in the first round on March 16. Campos, a native of Navajoa, Mexico, began fighting in 1987 at age 16. Campos beat former world champ Raul Marquez in December 1997 to win the IBF light middleweight crown. He also has faced such big-name fighters and former title-holders Oscar De La Hoya, Fernando Vargas and Felix Trinidad in his long career. Duddy, ranked No. 11 by the WBA, figures to be the sportsbook boxing favorite with his power likely to overwhelm Campos.

How active has Campos been in the last three years. I thought he had retired. I would love to see his expierence outlast the Derry kid.

"Yori Boy" has the same record as Alexis Arguello when he retired.

can Yiro Boy make it....

His records stands at 81 wins and 7 losses in 88 bouts, his 68 knockout wins making him a member of the exclusive group of boxers with 50 or more career knockout wins.
We will have to wait what happen. He tried to gain the WBC and WBA world Jr. Middleweight titles against Oscar De La Hoya, on May 5, 2003, again, in Las Vegas. He lost that fight, his last to date, by knockout in round seven. Now, I heard, he is seeking to fight De la Hoya again. That would be interesting...

If his record is 81, and 7, then he needs to lose a fight, and win 7 more to get to Arguello's record.

Is this a "real" opportunity for Duddy to make headways in the rankings or is Yory Boy a "gatekeeper" past his prime? 17-0 is a good record but has the quality of his opponents been such that he deserves a #11 ranking? I like boxers who knock people out, I like Irish boxers, but I do not like middle of the road boxers get too hyped before they actually prove something. Is Yory Boy ranked higher than Duddy even?
