Ricky "The Hitman" Hatton invasion of the United States was a success Saturday night as he scored a unanimous decision over Luis Collazo, at the TD BankNorth Garden, in Boston, MA, to capture the WBA welterweight title.

He didn't do it easily as he struggled with Collazo for twelve hard fought rounds, winning by scores of 115-112, and 114-113.

Thumbs up

man ricky hatton thinks he's playn rugby, if collazo didn't eat that first left hand in the fight would have been a draw or a win for collazo, ricky's not ready for 147 he's lucky collazo not a killer welterweight, ricky would of had a big L...he was in trouble in the later rounds when collazo realized that a lead left hand with a quik right was the set-up an that got ricky in trouble early in the 12rd...that the first time i've seen ricky wobble that was great!!! floyd would make quick work of him, cotto be to strong for him, ricky vs gatti??? could ricky hang wit gatti's relentless attack..hum?? or would he rather chase the winner of corrales vs. castillo at 140 where i think he's more comfortable??

You have to remember this was hatton's first fight in the welterweight weight and to win in whatever circumstances is always good especially against a champion.

He could of easily took the step up against a much weaker opponent for the experience and then took on Collazo. I think he will really shine in his next fight and start landing some KO bodyshots...

Ted The Bull Sares

Hatton is one of my favorites but need to go back down in weight. He almost lifted off the ground on some of the inside exchanges and this exposed his lack of strength at this weight. Moreover, he could not do his usual body work by keeping his opponent pined on the ropes.

Of course, Collazo was no slouch and fought a very good fight.

147 is not the place where hatton should be right now he's goin to get ko'd...he looked like de la hoya when he fought felix sturm at 160lbs sloppy, an in oscar's next fight against even better opp. got dropped at 160lbs, e.morales went to 135lbs an lost his first fight at that weight class some fighters need to really think before they move up!! i wish hatton all the luck in world he's a great fighter!!! who knows he probalby fight mayorga next LOL !!!!!!
