Cristian Mijares- 33-3-2 (14 KOs)
Cristian Mijares was born in Gomez Palacio, Mexico, on 2nd October 1981. He is the WBC Super-Flyweight champion of the world, and regarded by many as one of the best fighters from the lower weight classes. Mijares is a 5ft 6in Southpaw and campaigns at Super-Flyweight.
Mijares made his professional debut in August 1998, winning via points over 4 rounds in Mexico. Despite 3 losses early in his career, all on points, Mijares has come back to be one of the better fighters in the lower weight classes and is now undefeated since early 2002. In March 2004, he beat Tomas Rojas for the Mexican Super-Flyweight title. He defended that title, and picked up other minor belts by fighting fellow Mexicans, many of his early fights were never televised.
In September 2006, Mijares travelled to Japan to fight Katsushige Kawashima for the interim WBC Super-Flyweight title. He won via SD over 12 rounds, and after one defense of his interim belt he travelled back to Japan for a second encounter with Kawashima, this time for the full WBC belt, which he won via 10th round TKO. In April 2007, Mijares fought the biggest fight of his career against Jorge Arce, undefeated since 1999 and a two-weight world champion. Mijares was underdog, but was in control from start to finish as he won a comfortable decision in a fight where Arce was badly beating and bloody. The final scores were 119-109, 118-110 and 117-111. Since then Mijares has defended his title three times, defeating Teppei Kikui (TKO10), Franck Gorjux (TKO1) and Jose Navarro (SD12).
His next bout is scheduled for the 17th May, and will be held in his hometown of Gomez Palacio in Mexico. An opponent has yet to be confirmed, however unification bouts with other title holders are wanted by Team Mijares.
