Need some help

I have never boxed before, but I got an e-mail from work saying that they are going to have boxing matches in one month. So i figured that i would give it a try. Any advise about training, what areas to concentrate on most, or anything would be greatly appreciated. Thanks a lot.

Footwork, basic punch blocking a jab and your 1,2. In a month's time you should be able to get that down. Oh and run at least 3 times a week. You will be amazed how quickly you get winded in the ring.

Learn the jab, footwork, cross, blocking, and ducking.

Well i found a guy at work who boxed golden gloves, so he showed me the proper jab today at work, and when i came home i practiced that and the 1,2. I also worked on the hook. Now what kind of footwork do i need to learn?

Hey, Brady. It's impossible to tell you all you need to know on a format like this.

Based on my years of experience boxing amateur throughout the 1960s I just simply recommend this to you based on the way I we did it and how I was taught.

* Get out there and do your road work (running) at 5:30 or 6:00 AM in the mornings. The air is more pure and clean to breath in the early mornings. And also to do a full, deep, lower breathing exercise just prior to doing your road work. It will develope and strengthen your lungs and chest. Excellent for perventing lung and chest troubles.

We did our roadwork every morning not just on some mornings, but every morning running every day of the week.

That will build your stamina, and will give you the stamina you need for boxing.

In boxing if you lack stamina your no good.

* If you have access to a boxing gym train there in the early evenings and workout for about two or two and half hours no less than five days a week. But six days a week is even better.

In boxing you have to be mentally and physically fit or your no good. As for developing boxing skills and learning how to fight is going to take time and training. But it will come as you come to have more experience.

Finally, I'll add that I'm not an advocate of lifting weights for boxers. It's only been in more recent years that some boxers started lifting weights.
