I used one for wrestling in HS and then again for boxing in college. I dont think I would recommend it while using the bags or sparring, however I think its fine for jump roping or shadow boxing.

I still don't know if I should wear one to work out with or not. Half the time I hear they're good, the other half of the time I hear they're bad for you 'cuz you'll dehyrdrate and pass out. Any ideas?

if you want to lose some weight, then use it... sure, you might pass out, but you will wake back up.
