teaching mself boxing fundementals outside of class

hi guys.
i do kickboxing for an hour monday, boxing/muay thai tuesday (hour each), and boxing/kickboxing thursday (hour each) at a local martial arts gym and my training is coming on really well.
im alot fitter, faster and stronger and ive lost 50 pounds since feb

my problem is getting the fundementals for boxing right.
i cant seem to keep my guard up high enough because when i have to do other things, such as striking and moving, thats when i start to drop my guard.

also i cant seem to swing my hips into the punches as much as i should be doing, i try my best to but it doesnt seem to work very well.
and sometimes when i do a right cross, i lean to the left for some reason.

edit: also i always forget to bring my elbow up high enough when i hook

i think maybe in time i will correct myself and learn, but is there anything i can do in my spare time to help my training more?

i thought about more shadow boxing infront of a mirror, i can only do this as my boxing lessons atm so maybe itll help?
any other suggestions will be very helpfull, thanks guys

Not bringing the elbow up high enough is very common, so dont fret. When you throw your 1-2, make sure that your right is thrown from the shoulder, so your arm is exteded, protecting the face, as you're pulling it back, you'll turn the hips, keep your arm parallel to the ground, and shoot the left hook in. Make sure your right hand coming back in stays high and returns to guard the chin.

This will all come in time im sure. I'd recommend going at half speed while you practice, until your more confident in your form, and then gradually speed it up.

With the swinging of the hips are you on the balls of yur feet? i had this problem when i was leaning back on the heels, making it very hard to shift the weight. Also with your guard, just always practise throwing your punches and bringing them back. Don't drop them to start your punch, do some shadow boxing (slowly) and you can see where your going wrong and correct it.

practicing slow in front of a mirror is what i do after a workout when all my muscles are tired this is when muscle memory is most effectively utilized i usually have three speeds starting at slow, then super slow then a medium speed it has greatly improved my technique
