Terrible Foot Pain when Sparring

Hi all. I seriously doubt I have plantar fasciitis but everytime I spar, I can't go more than three rounds because the arch in both my feet start hurting like crazy. It's been bad enough for me to want to jump out of the ring and take my shoes off (which I've been doing for the past few months because of the terrible pain). I've changed boxing shoes twice and used three different types of insoles that are engineered for arch support but still no change. It's unusual because I only experience the pain when I'm sparring and feel nothing when I'm working out and engaging in other athletic activities. I need some advice quick because I'm competing in the Golden Gloves next week and I don't want it to be the reason for any losses!

Help Please!

I don't know what to tell you. This is probably caused by you fighting on the balls of your feet. I fight in the balls of my feet but have never had a problem of this magnitude.

I have similar problems though when I wear my Adidas Sambas for long periods of time.

Here are some things you can try

Tiger Balm Extra Strength Red or Tiger Balm Liniment (sold at GNC for around $7) or Cryogel sold at some GNC's and online for around the same price

you could start exercising your feet more.

Calf Raises not only work the calfs but the muscles in your feet.

Stretching can also help

If this doesn't help. I suggest going to a doctor ASAP. I buddy of mine had a problem similar to this and the doctor gave him a prescription for an anti inflammatory and it went away within an matter of days

Thanks for the advice, Southpaw. I think I'll go ahead and invest on some pain ointment. Will it prevent the pain if I apply the ointment right before I spar? I've been working out my legs and stretching regularly but that doesn't seem to remedy the situation either. Also, I'm not prepared to see a doctor yet because I only experience the pain when I spar. For the rest of the day I'm perfectly pain-free.

Well the cryogel and tigerbalm are anti inflammatory and give a sort of cooling sensation when you apply it. It takes around 5 minutes before it kicks in. Either way I'd see a doctor and tell them the problem and that it only occurs at a certain time and they may be able to help you further

Good advice in both of your posts bro. I was also thinking its from the pressure of being on the balls of your feet while sparring.
Do you use different shoes while training then you do while sparring ?

I'd really suggest getting your feet checked.

For example, I had massive pain in the balls of my feet. My chiro sent me to a foot specialist. Turns out, that due to the way my feet are built I can't walk on anything but the balls of my feet (I run on tippy toes lol.) If I try to put my heels down I end up tearing my calve muscles. I had to get very expensive inserts to take the pressure off of the balls of my feet. I have to wear heels ( good thing I'm a girl ) to avoid injury.

Not saying that this is your issue, but you'd be surprised at what the construction of your foot can do to you and cause pain. Get it checked just to be safe and avoid injury.

Nope, I use the same shoes for both training and sparring. I'm fairly flat-footed by the way.
