REVIEW: Shock Doctor Gel Nano DNA
I've been training for a few months now, enough where they guy teaching me has started sparring me, throwing half-shots. So that's where I am for some perspective.
I got this mouthpiece as it looked like a quality boil and bite, and was only 11 dollars + shipping from sportsunlimitedinc.com. Unfortunately, it looks like they ran out of them at that price. I also ordered a Anti-Microbial Mouthguard Case with it for $6.
I've worn both the regular Gel by Shock Doctor as well as a variety of other mouthpieces throughout my life playing hockey and some soccer. This is by far the best mouth piece I've ever owned.
The boil and bite process should be followed very exactly and it results in an incredibly close mold that is sticky that will stay in. It clenches well, and though the gel is perfect after you "quench" it in cold water. The harder outer frame gives great rigidity. My mold is form fitting through out all my teeth, even the lower molars. The gel material is very comfortable as well.
Breathability is good with the piece in. I have a small mouth (all four wisdom teeth impacted and removed) and I have no problems with gagging. It has minimal interference with breathing. You'll forget it's in.
I've gotten hit a few times with it so far, but haven't really had a chance since I'm new. But from the perspective of wearing mouth pieces playing other sports, this thing has it all.
