Winning FG-5000 & FG-2900

This was originally posted under my old username, so now putting it up again as Aussie MW- the king of reviews!!

Here is my comparison of the Winning FG-5000 and the FG-2900.

Weight- FG-5000 weighs in at 20oz, the FG-2900 at 12oz. Both are very light. The FG-2900 gets the slight edge though, it's so light I thought the box was empty when it arrived! Both are extremely light though.

Vision- Both have excellent vision, but the slight nod actually goes to the FG-5000 surprisingly. Despite the nose bar I felt like the wide vision for hooks was a bit better. Both have better vision than any other headgear I've used so far (including Reyes & Rival).

Comfort- I prefer the FG-2900 by a small amount, it felt like a more snug fit than the FG-5000 which feels a little bloated in comparison. This is personal preference only, both are very comfortable in terms of padding, lining and the chin straps, both of which are very comfortable and don't choke like other headgears.

Protection- The FG-5000 has a slight edge here obviously, it's bombproof! nothing is getting through this bad boy. The FG-2900 though offers very good nose protection though, the cheek protectors fit snuggly enough that your nose is tucked in. The only way your going to get damage to the nose is from a straight right that would have to land perfectly clean and with full power. For sparring it will offer easily enough protection. The 5000 is an absolute beast though, I've never worn anything like it.

Price- The FG-5000 is pricey at $370US. In comparison, the FG-2900 offers (in my opinion) 90% of the benefits of the FG-5000 at nearly half the price.

Conclusion- IMO, If you absolutely must have a facebar headgear go with the FG-5000. If your unsure (as many are) about which to choose, I say go with the FG-2900, it's pound-for-pound better value and offers nearly as much protection. IMO it feels a little more natural to wear as opposed to the more "bloated" feel of the 5000. In the end though, it's preference. Both of them are hands down the best pieces of gear I've ever owned.

- Worlds best protection IMO
- Both extremely light (2900 ULTRA light)
- Both have excellent vision
- Both extremely comfortable in their respective shapes
- They look beautiful and the colour holds well after months of use

- Price (Winning's most common issue)
- Some may not like the old school laces (a preference thing, I love 'em)

I've kept this review short so you guys can ask any questions. Fire away and I'll answer them all as soon as I can.

Hope you enjoyed.

Hey Aussie, do you still like the FG-5000? Can you see against uppercuts? Do you think this headgear is good if you like to fight on the inside with a cross-arm defense??
