Yeah i agree, for me if Holyfield wouldave won the Bowe trilogy he would stand out as the best of the 3, but he did not so for me id have to go with Lewis based on his record. Oh and i actually have Ali as my ATG hw but i can see why you put Louis up there.

I mostly put him ahead of Ali because the man didn't have to rely on stamina to win most of his fights (unlike Ali)...he just went in there and knocked the guy out. And most of the time it was effortless. I've seen Ali struggle with fighters of no real significance too much. Mostly because he didn't have a punch. He also has more questionable victories than Louis has.

I'm not asking for everyone's top 20 lists in this thread unless they are some kind of boxing historian.

Furthermore, this isn't about rating Heavyweight Champions only, and to base their ranking on lb for lb is not appropriate.

Heh.

Well, I will say this much: if you ask for a Top 20 and don't expect someone else to respond with the same, then what you are really asking for is an exercise in debating how great your opinions are. The most efficient way of responding to something like this is to simply put your own Top 20 up, and then see how they compare.... and actually, the whole idea of a Top 20 is meaningless unless you do rank them.

That said, I think not winning the brass ring in your era should be such a minus that if a guy CAN enter a list without having done so, it should be near the bottom.

1) I ranked them, see post #3.

2) Wills, Langford, McVea, and Jeannette were never given a shot at the title. Rank them lower because they didn't win the title when they never got the chance? I think not.

I agree, Louis is #1 IMO. He was far more dominant as a HW champion.

Well, one of my blogs covers Marciano. You could read that first then talk to me about it.

I read your blog and i respect your decision. i like how you broke down all of his better opponents and put into perspective their size and circumstances of when Marciano faced them.
