Kelly Pavlik May Be Grand Farewell Opponent For Supa Joe

Calzaghe Sizes Up Pavlik And Roy Jones, May Prefer To Finish As Ghostbuster!

BREAKING NEWS
4/23/2008

He leans to the left. He leans to the right. He pulls his head back and to the side.

That’s what makes undefeated ring king Joe Calzaghe so hard for opponents to hit. Now, having conquered whiner Bernard Hopkins, Supa Joe is contemplating one grand exit, one more fight, either in London or in his home grouds of Cardiff.

From what Boxingconfidential.com is hearing, Joe C, Wales is leaning towards being a “Ghostbuster” in his farewell to arms. That may be good news for middleweight champ Kelly Pavlik and promoter Bob Arum.

“Joe thinks he sees ****** in Kelly’s armor that he does not see in Roy Jones,” one European promoter said. “Joe also likes the idea of conquering the king of the 160-pounders so he can leave boxing as the dominant man from 160 to light heavyweight.

Joe feels this is what becomes a legend most.”

The promoter said that this is Calzaghe’s preference but that does not mean that Jones will get passed over.

“Joe also likes the idea of legend versus legend,” the promoter said. “But Joe thinks he can knock Pavlik out or stop him on cuts. He doesn’t see that likeliehood against the so clever Jones. Plus, Joe does not like the fact people will say he is picking on an older man, since Roy is older than Joe. Pavlik looks like fresh meat to Joe. Joe loves the way Pavlik is so open to be hit."

Finally, the promoter cautioned that its likely to be a month or slightly more before Calzaghe starts making serious moves towards a November Grand Farewell Fight.

“Give Joe some time to celebrate and wind it down,” the promoter said. “Even Frank Warren has loosened his tie and is relaxing for now. While Joe has his r&r, Frank can turn to his other business.”

He has a better chance of beating Jones. He could be making the same mistake RJJ did when he went back down to 175 after besting John Ruiz.
I think the shock of losing the weight, when he already has problems making 168 would be the deciding factor coupled with Pavliks out of this world power.

I dont think the weight will be an isue, Joe said he felt great coming down to 175 and he would have made 168 very easily for that fight.

Anyway, Pavlik is my prefered match, for that reason that Joe would have wiped out the best fighters 160/168/175 in 3 fights.

I wouldn't expect KP to be in a hurry for a fight at 168 when he still continues to get better at 160, untop of the fact all of his fights except Taylor II were at the middle weight limit.
Hes as much of a pure middle weight as JC is a pure super middle.

Arum won't let him fight Calzaghe at 168. Let alone fight in Wales. He's making too much money off him so he won't let him get that L.

Hell, Bob's in a win - win situation letting Pavlik fight Joe, he makes a fortune in that fight and even when Kelly loses they still got the 160 titles.

Your right KP is Uncle Bobs biggest magic goose second only to PacMan.

How long is it gonna be till theres champion that pale, bird chested, working class kids can look up to
.
You got that right. Pavlik is a promoter's dream. Throwback fighter, heavy handed, humble and white. Arum is gonna sell a lot of PPV buys to non-boxing fans with that kid.

Anyone see mild similarities between Pavlik and the white character in "the Great White Hype?" He's white, from ohio, etc etc. Except Kelly can friggin fight. He's not hyped up. I just seen an irony there.

The similarities between Irish Terry Conklin, and KP probably end at them both being white and from Ohio. KP is more hope than hype.
