WBA champion Juan Diaz (32-0, 16 KOs) retained his title and added the WBO belt of Acelino Freitas (38-2, 32 KOs) with a eighth round TKO on Saturday night at Foxwoods Resort Casino in Mashantucket, Connecticut. From the start, the pace was fast and furious. As usual, Diaz was an aggressive non-stop punching machine and Freitas stayed with him punch for punch. The direction of the fight was revealed in round five when Diaz had Freitas hurt and reeling. Popo made it out of the round, but from then on Freitas seemed to be wearing down while Diaz remained fresh. Freitas was hurt again in the eighth round and quit on his stool before the start of round nine.
