Hi,
Im new to the site and am after some advice! I am essentially a cyclist but as winter draws near I thought that this year I would try boxing during the winter months to stay in shape. We have a gym at work that has a heavy bag and the usual weights/machines so I was wondering what a suitable work out for a beginner would be? I am looking to gain muscle (but not too much) as I have skinny cyclists arms!! I am also looking to improve my core strength and chest areas. Thanks in advance.

lots

I'm a relative newby, joining a boxing gym about 6 months ago. There's lots to say here but I'll try to mention just a few thougts. I suggest you get a little time with a boxing trainer to at least start out with some of the correct, basic moves. This would also include getting wraps (and learning how to wrap your hands) and access to decent gloves - as I'd recommend not just slugging away at the bag bare-handed. Also, a good boxing trainer can show you the suggested floor exercises to build your core. Like me, you'll find that integrating boxing into your workout routine will be fantastic.

Thanks for that. I will have to look into finding a boxing gym in my area. My main worry is a lack of technique. I can hit the heavy bag as much as I want but i think I am missing out, wasting energy, by having poor technique.
Cheers
