Howdy, Im new to the forums and thought this would be he best place. I don't know if this is the right sub-forum to put this in and even if the introduction threads are allowed, so I apologize if not  Anyways, I'm 17, from Texas and to be honest, I don't know anything about boxing. I found the site by doing a google search for boxing forums because I want to pick up a few tips about training at home, and such. I lift weights regularly (ive got a full home-gym already) and the other day I picked up a 100 lb punchin bag to practice with.

To the admins/mods: Ive been a part of many forum sites and I understand the basic rules about posting, etc. and I plan to learn here and be respectful so hope I can stay out of everyone's way :cheeky4:

Back to the main reason for posting. Like I said, I know NOTHING about boxing, and to be completely honest again, I really just want to study/practice the sport to be a bit better at fighting/self defense. I would like to join a gym/class later on to learn properly how to box, but for now I believe I need to practice hitting, speed, and get myself adjusted to what it takes to be an okay boxer. I'd love any advice, tips, and just whatever you people want to throw at me. Im not sure what I need to use to protect my wrists completely, Im genetically small around my wrists, so that might help y'all help me decide what type of gloves/wraps to wear. And I also would like some ideas on what I need to start of practicing and doing right now. I'd really like to get into watching the sport as well, so Im going to go browse the place, watch some vids....

Thanks, Jake

Well first off, welcome to the forum. You'll find alot of useful info, and knowledgable members here. I would recommend checking out the training section as there are a few writeups I've done stickied there that may help you get started. If you have any specific questions, feel free to ask.

hey mate welcome to the site, my best suggestion would be if u do want to eventually get trained, look for a local amature trainer or someone who knows a bit about boxing and has done and go to him strait away, doing abit urself is all good but that is how u pick up bad habbits, and if u get use to these bad habbits when u eventually go to a trainer it is very hard to get rid the habbits, i started trainin in my back shed many yrs ago and thought i wasnt goin to bad untill i went to a trainer and i relized i didnt know how to box at all even know i had been doing it for yrs and it was very hard to get rid of some habbits, and regardless of how long i had been doing it for the trianer made me start from scratch anyway, he said to me it is easier to train someone who hasnt done it before than someone who has just trained themselves, he will start u off with the jab and will just go from there, it may take a long time but it is a long process and u have to be very patient, and if u just want to train and not compete well i dont speak for all trainers but our local trainer is no worrys with that
