On April 20th at Bally’s Atlantic City Hotel and Casino, the two premier Jr. Welterweights in the World are set to clash in a Garden State Turf War.
Joe DeGuardia’s Star Boxing presents: The WBO #1 rated Kendall “Rated R” Holt (21-1, 12KO’s) from Patterson, NJ vs. the WBO #2 rated “Mighty” Mike Arnaoutis (17-1-2, 9KO’s) of Atlantic City, NJ, in a 12-round WBO Jr. Welterweight Eliminator for the #1 mandatory spot. The winner gets a shot at the current WBO champion Ricardo Torres.
“What we have here is an extremely competitive and compelling match-up between two of the top Jr. Welterweights in the world” stated Star Boxing CEO Joe DeGuardia. “I have the utmost confidence that Mike Arnaoutis will be successful on April 20th and then win what is rightfully his, the WBO Jr. Welterweight title from Ricardo Torres”
Tickets are $75, $50 and $35 and go on sale March 3, 2007 through Ticketmaster, online at Official Ticketmaster site. Tickets for Concerts, Sports, Arts, Theater, Family, Events, more and by phone at 1-800-736-1420.
Athens born, ‘Mighty Mike' has been a champion since 1993. As an amateur his record was 103 wins with 68 knockouts against only 4 loses. He won an astonishing 8 Greece National Titles plus 6 Gold, 4 Silver, and 3 Bronze Medals in International competitions.
Last November “Mighty” Mike, who now resides in Atlantic City, NJ, was on the wrong end of a controversial split decision to Ricardo Torres. Although Arnaoutis was winning a chess match, he gave the crowd a jolt when he dropped the Columbian brawler in the seventh, en-route to his first loss. Team Arnaoutis was disappointed with the official results. “Everybody knows that “Mighty” Mike Arnaoutis is the uncrowned WBO World Champion at 140 pounds.” said Mike Michael, Arnaoutis’ advisor. The media expressed similar sentiments. “Mike Arnaoutis was outright robbed of a deserved title victory by the incredibly inept judging,” stated Doug Fisher of Max Boxing.
Arnaoutis, who has been training hard at the LA Boxing Gym in Somers Point, N.J., knows that a victory over Kendall Holt on April 20th gets him another crack at the title. He’s ready to show the world his performance against Torres was an anomaly. “I will become a World Champion and Kendal Holt will not stop me from doing this” said Arnaoutis. “I will completely dominate him and beat him convincingly and their will be only one man’s hand raised in victory at the end of this fight and that hand will be mine.”
Kendall Holt’s most recent performance was perhaps his best, dominating previously unbeaten Isaac Hlatshwayo last November on ShoBox. Holt also boasts a win over current WBC interim lightweight titlist David Diaz, coming off the canvas to stop the Mexican in eight rounds.
“Cestus Management and StarBoxing have worked hard for me to have this opportunity to be in this World title final eliminator” declared Arnaoutis. “I will not let anybody down. I will win and win big on April 20th”
This fight airs live on SHOWTIME live at 11 p.m. ET/PT (delayed on the West Coast).
