In one of those ironic twists that can only happen in boxing, Arturo Gatti will challenge for the real world welterweight title against Carlos Baldomir in July 22 while Floyd Mayweather Junior, who beat action hero Gatti to a pulp last year, has to make do fighting the guy Baldomir just beat, Zab Judah.

Former super-featherweight and junior welterweight champion Gatti's welterweight challenge will take place on his home turf of the Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, New Jersey.

Baldomir became a must-have opponent after he shocked Judah in January, with Oscar De La Hoya's Golden Boy Promotions and Ricky Hatton's handlers Fight Academy/Banner tabling significant bids before Gatti's Main Events got their man
Anyone planning to watch these welterweights go at it?

Baldomir Gatti

I think Baldomir will pull out the upset. If he can do it to Zad Judah he can do it to Arturo Gatti. I also think that in that division Mayweather is unmatched in skill but I also think Baldomir has a lot of skill too.

I thought Gatti fought a dumb fight. McGirt had to know goin in that Baldomir had a great chin. Gatti should have been workin the body from round 1. I think he threw 1 or 2 bodyshots in the 1st 5 rounds.
When Gatti started boxing etc I think it was round 6 he looked good Baldomir was missing etc. He should have done that the whole fight.

Baldomir vs Hatton or Baldomir vs Margarito would be great.

Hatton would destroy him.
Did you see Hatton vs Collazo? Hatton had his hands full at 147 with a guy everyone said he would destroy. Hatton was lucky not to lose that fight.

Thing with Baldomir is he is used to this weight has a solid chin. He is slightly bigger than Hatton. Hatton may win but i wouldnt say either would destroy the other guy.
I just read today that hatton may give up his belt to avoid fighting Urkal.

Gatti is made fighter just like Tyson. OK maybe not exactly like Tyson but both were made fighters. I have seen the most unbelievable results in Gatti fights. It seems the only way to beat him without controversy is to knock hiim completly out without getting a DQ. By the way, does any one think Gatti doen't know he is a made fighter or does he really think he is that good?

Baldomir KOs Gatti in 9

Just updating the thread :D

In a battle of "blood and guts" warriors, WBC welterweight champion Carlos Baldomir (43-9-6, 13 KOs) scored a nith round TKO over Arturo "Thunder" Gatti (40-8, 31 KOs) to retain his title Saturday night at the famous Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, New Jersey.

Baldomir was too strong for Gatti, hurting him with hard right hands all night. Gatti bravely tried to trade, but was outgunned. In addition, Gatti hurt his hand in round six. Gatti started boxing from the outside in the seventh, using his left hand almost exclusively. Baldomir dropped Gatti in the ninth with a left hook after a vicious exchange on the ropes and floored the still reeling Gatti again moments later to get the stoppage. Time was 2:50.
