Just how much confidence does promoter Bob Arum of Top Rank have in unbeaten middleweight Kelly Pavlik?

Arum told ITV, that he predicts that Pavlik will be bigger than Oscar De La Hoya, a six-division champion, ever was. A very bold statement since De La Hoya is viewed as one of the most popular fighters in the history of the sport.

"It is hard for you to envision now, but he will be much bigger than Oscar De La Hoya ever was. I'm telling you. That is my goal,'' Arum said.

Last weekend in Memphis, Pavlik knocked out Edison Miranda in seven round war to become the mandatory challenger to Jermain Taylor's WBC title.

obviously arum has forgotten why delahoya was such a big star. His good looks. Pavlik is an ugly white guy haha.

he's very popular, he advertising alot of boxing gear and is th eman to knock off hops rane. Alot more people know of him that pavlik. Pavlik doesnt have the face to be a star to be honest. And i know were talkign about boxing and your probabley saying what does looks have to do with it? there have been plenty of champions, but who are the ones that are remembered, the good looking ones with great looking bodies. Not saying this is right but its true.

Is Bob smoking the crack or is he just shooting it up? Bigger than Oscar is he crazy. Oscar is a generation fighter. That means only 1 comes along in a generation. He could become champ at middle super middle and light heavy and still wont be as popular as Oscar.

shane im goign to call you sugar now becasue that statement you made about shooting and choking just made things so sweet sounding. The next big thing in boxing will be andre berto as long as he fights the best, I see berto eventually fighting at middleweight because he's been coming in at 158 and 159 the day of the fights lately. But will he be as big as delahoya money wise, probabley not.
