Arum Wants Taylor-Pavlik For 9/22 in Las Vegas

It was reported by The Plain Dealer , that promoter Bob Arum of Top Rank is wasting no time in positioning Kelly Pavlik (31-0, 28 KOs) for his mandatory title shot at WBC/WBO middleweight champion Jermain Taylor (27-0-1, 17 KOs).

Arum has a date reserved of September 22, with Las Vegas being the preferred site. A deal has even been struck with HBO, but Arum is not sold on the fight happening. He indicated to the paper that he's been told Taylor may give up his WBC title, most likely to move up to super middleweight to challenge WBO champ Joe Calzaghe of Wales.

"We've agreed to terms with HBO," said Arum. "I'm optimistic the fight happens. We're hearing Taylor might give up the title. But Kelly is the premier 160-pounder. All those other guys are just businessmen."

Should Taylor drop the WBC title to fight Calzaghe at super middleweight, Arum says that boxing fans should boycott Taylor's future fights.

"The public should not buy another Taylor fight," Arum said. "They don't want to see him or Floyd Mayweather go out and do a tap dance. Kelly went out and fought the toughest guy [Edison Miranda] in the division and not only beat him, he annihilated him. Even Miranda said that."

There really is nothing wrong with Taylor stepping upto 168 and fighting Calzaghe instead of taking on Pavlik. He said he would go where the most money is, and im pretty sure Calzaghe-Taylor would generate more money than Pavlik-Taylor.

I know i said Calzaghe's next opponent wouldnt be talked about, but something interesting was said on Sunday by FW. He said that a £2.5million purse for Taylor has been agreed, however the stumbling block of the fight had been Lou DiBella. Apparently, he wants £500,000 for himself to make the fight. Just thought id share that, probably bull**** like everything else being said, but what the hell:laugh:

i hope it goes down becuase that is about the same time calzaghe/kessler is being planned, if all goes off, were on with the final four in the middlweight division. That would be one heck of a marketable tournament thing. 4 of the best middlweights in the world, square off, 1 night, 2 division belts, 2 men come out on top, then , they must square off, to be come the universally recognized, best middleweight/supermiddleweight in the world ( Jermain lol Bad Intentions Taylor )

I don't predict fights that are in the distant future very often, but I would have to go with Kelly Pavlik out of those four. Call me crazy I don't mind. I just see something in him that I don't in any of the others.

haha, nice correction. Im not prediciting anything, thats just who i would like it to be. Im startign to get the impression that pavlik is becoming a little overhyped becasue there is no other middleweight out there to really challenge taylor. You guys say miranda was overhyped but he did alright against pavlik, although he did get ko'ed. I see the same thing happening when pavlik fights taylor. Just someone hyped up, but if he proves me wrong, ill change my oppinion.

I'm sorry but you must be kidding. Miranda didn't come close to doing alright. He got anihilated. I'm not over hyping Pavlik at all. I just think he is going to continue getting better and will come out on top. Taylor doesn't throw nearly enough punches, Calzaghe is an open target, and Kessler is too slow. Pavlik is no badass but I just have a feeling.

no im not kidding shane, like i said, i had the fight even through 6. Then it was all pavlik, but miranda is no calzaghe, kessler or taylor. Pavlik is slower than all 3 of those guys and the taylor that i know , does throw alot of punches, he just didnt against spinks, as for calzaghe and kessler, they both throw a ton of punches, kessler all power with a stif jab that pavlik couldnt handle, and calzaghe would overwelm him with punches. A pure power puncher wont beat these 3 guys, ( just my oppinion )

Pavlik was a pure power puncher when fighting Miranda, but he can box too. I think he was a decent amateur, and has shown some good boxing skills in past fights. The fight with Miranda was more to prove a point, just going to war and beating him.

IF Taylor fights Pavlik like he did Spinks he would lose IMO but i think if Taylor came out of his shell he would beat him. The only worry Calzaghe would have if Pavlik tags him a couple of times, he has a habit of dropping the hands and going toe-to-toe when he gets hit hard, a macho thing. Kessler-Pavlik would be the closest IMO, Pavlik has some boxing skills and good power and Kessler is quite robotic with good power. I see Kessler winning though still.

yeah, pavlik can take a good one punch from a slow miranda that he can see the punches coming, he couldnt see all 10 punches that calzaghe throws at once and those would do more damage than a miranda 1 punch. Im going with taylor, ill bet up to 20 k as well.

Taylor is too unpredictable for me to bet against. You just dont know what Taylor is going to show up. If Taylor shows up at his best hes the best MW, if not AA and Pavlik would both have a shot at beating him.

haha 20k is alot to bet against Taylor.. especially when the judges always seem to favour him in close calls:cheeky4: Id fancy Taylor against Pavlik though. Power is the only thing Pavlik has on Taylor, and thats still close.
