In the first super flyweight unification title bout in more than 10 years, WBC champion Cristian Mijares (35-3-2, 14 KOs) took the title of WBA champion Alexander "El Explosivio" Munoz (32-3, 27 KOs) via twelve round split decision on Saturday night at the Auditorio Centenario in Gomez Palacio, Durango, Mexico. The power-punching Munoz put on a spirited effort as he pressured Mijares constantly, but the Mexican ring technician was simply a little better and was in command at the end. Scores were 116-111, 115-112 for Mijares and 115-113 for Munoz.
