Say what you want about Mike Tyson. Some people will say he was an overrated boxer during an era in which there were no other legitimate heavyweights. Others will say he was a bad person. Some will say he was nowhere near as good as the likes of Ali, Louis or Marciano. Well all I've got to say is this. I am a huge fan of Mike Tyson... "THE REAL" Mike Tyson. The one in his prime during the 80s... he was undefeated... UNDEFEATED! He has 37 and won 33 by KO! Most of them were in the first round! He beat legitimate heavyweights just like that... it was as soon as the 90s came around that he became sloppy and simply relied on his power... not his pace... not his skill... not his swarming! JUST POWER! Why he became sloppy? I'll tell you why! When Tyson was on top of the world... the media ate it up and at the same time fed him bull****. He was lured into the celebrity lifestyle of being a major star. You may have noticed that during his 80s prime... and in most of his fights... he'd do the following:

After he'd brutally beat an opponent and knock him out... Tyson would go over and help that guy up! You're all seen it done by Mike Tyson many times. I've never seen Muhammad Ali do that... he'd walk around and celebrate and not look twice at the guy he just beat. Mike Tyson respected his opponents... and I believe it when he says that the only reason he downtalked Lennox Lewis back in 2002 was just for publicity. He went a little too far biting him (the same goes for biting Evander Holyfield) but... yeah... THE MEDIA GODDAMN IT! Mike Tyson has children and cares for them... a lot!

He only did stupid things because the media had turned him into a monster. He grew up with a low self esteem and was easy to manipulate. He learnt to control himself for a while in the 80s. From the moment he married Robin Givens (who I reckon is an absolute bitch)... that's when the media came crashing down on him. I blame the world, the press, and the public and everything for ruining Mike Tyson. This is just my opinion. You can disagree with me if you want. Mike Tyson is nowhere hear as bad a person as he is talked up to be... I say again... "It was all talk"... and it was talk that ruined him!

In conclusion... if somehow Lewis and Tyson went toe to toe in the 80s... not long after Lennox Lewis won the Olympic Gold Medal at the 1988 Summer Olympics in which shortly after he turned Pro... Tyson would win! The Tyson that Lewis destroyed back in 2002... that was not Tyson... that was a sluggish, slow and media manipulated past his prime Mike Tyson! I can guaran-damn-tee you all that Mike Tyson... in his prime... in the 80s... would've beaten any one of the legitimate heavyweights from the 90s and nowadays in the 00s. Including that 7 foot, 300+ pound Russian Guy... whatever his name is... he only wins because he is so freaking huge damn it!!!

I'm a Mike Tyson fan! Say what you want about him! I've tried my best at defending him and I respect the man... that's just what I think... Thank You!!!

  1. Are you taking the piss out of me or do you actually respect what I have written about Iron Mike?
  2. He'd probably my hero in terms of boxing... I was short and picked on by bigger guys... HE BEAT THE CRAP OUT OF BIGGER GUYS!
  3. I'd order it... but I don't have PAY TV and I don't have the money! Also... I think he should stay retired... it's best for him... he mustn't tarnish what was once a great legacy any further!

Tyson was a great boxer/fighter. Not too many people struck fear in his opponents hearts like tyson Did. He is up there with Sonny Liston, Forman, and Dempsy as Scary as hell. Tyson was not a huge heavy weight, and hit like a mule could kick you. He ran toward his oppponets, and went for the kill. A true warrior in spirit, just did not have the heart or mind. Sorry, as good as Tyson was he was a crazy loon.

No he was crazy before that. When he was 8 he cut his sleeping 12 year old brother with a razor blade for fun. PS I respect how you stood up for Tyson in a nice, organized fashion without insulting anybody to bad. The only fighter's that Ive seen pick his KO'd oppenent up every time was Marciano, and Schmeling. Tyson picked most of up in the 80's not all of them though. But still, good job for sticking up for your favorite.

Saddly, Tyson is a stero - typical case of a fatherless child. Though he made his own choices. There was plenty of influence in his life for the good, he just choose the wrong path. He had so much talent, and that freakish power. Who, knows what would of happened if he choose the right people to hang around. I'm sure it would not be as sad of a story as it is now for him.

Much props to him for giving us nearly 20 yrs of great fighting, but he looks like he heading for a very sad ending now. I hope everything works out for him.

they say money doesn't bring happiness and mikes a shinning exsample when he had he was manipulated angry at the world and bad mannered.

look at the contrast now he seems content he seems sound in mind and very family orientated maybe he's that bit older and wiser too.

there is no doubt mike in the days where he blew away the likes of berbick thomas and spinks that he was more than a match for any heavyweight of any era!!!!

THANKS MAN! I actually did something pretty stupid when I was 9... I threw a ball so hard at my little brother that it busted his lip and he had to get stitches!

I don't think that can quite compare, but I gotta give some props for a thorough defense of your fav bruiser. Often times when people really get into arguing a case they don't do so much with eloquence.

Wow, I think Mike is the perfect example of the tragic hero.He was a street mean and savy thug who's energy was harnessed briefly by Cus D'mato, who mentored him.Mike had the metioric rise tto be champ at age 19 and had the world in his hand. Sadly he was surrounded by people who sucked the life and money out of him. After Cus there was no one he could trust to guide him and protect his money. No wonder he made bad decisions and acted out horribly out of the ring. Yet the public could not get enough of the good Mike or the bad Mike. The press never caused him to do anything. He has and always will take responsilbility for his actions. Now on top of all of this throw in a dose of Don King, and that makes for an even more tragic story.Young boxers can learn from the good and the bad Mike. I wish him well only so that he can get out of debt and have a good retirement as a former champ.I hope he doesn't get hurt from these exibitions.
