Duran was brilliant. Not much more that needs to be said.
Duran insulting Leonard's wife
Well, you have to wonder about Duran. If there is an award for boxing's biggest baddest badass award, surely Duran would be a genuine candidate, if not a winner. At the very least, Duran is a twisted picture of human nature. His machismo was so colossal, his self belief so invincible and talent undoubtable that, to a normal person, his behavior showed itself in quite absurd and unbelievable ways. This makes Duran such an interesting character in the history of boxing, one that is equally fascinating and repulsive at the same time.
Now, what has started me off on this topic is that today I was reading Dundee's rather crap autobiography and he devotes an entire chapter to Duran and Leonard. The book itself is poor because Dundee shows himself to be no better than a fanboy. His observations on Duran are close to rubbish. However, the best parts of the book are the priceless anecdotes he relates. My goodness, Dundee describes Duran's various antics in vivid detail. Duran displayed such open and naked hatred toward Leonard, he demeaned his manhood, abused him to his face and rudely gestured at him at every opportunity. Yet it was not enough. All this culminated when Duran turned his attention towards Mrs Leonard. He was shockingly bad towards her. In front of Leonard, the welterweight champion of the world, he openly told her he was going to do her after he kills her husband in the ring!!! Duran would also thrust his hips towards her to remind her of his intentions. Can anyone believe this? What do you do, or what can you do when a Duran does this to you? Dundee also relates how Mrs Leonard feinted during the fight. The poor woman!!!! I feel sorry for her but she had no business being there.
So what do you guys think about this badass Duran. Was he sick or what? What made him tick? Can anyone try and explain him? :dunno:

However, truly one of the greatest of all time, to go 15 rounds with the invincible Hagler (at the time) for a lightweight is truely special (and the judges unless im mistaken had the fight even going into the 14 round, truly a legend.

Well, what was Leonard going to do about it? Take it to the street? IMO it was wrong of Duran to say those things. I don't think fighters should insult eachother's family or any of that. If any smack talk goes down it should strictly be between the fighters. Roberto is lucky that Ray doesn't really have a bad temper and he wasn't exactly a street fighter like many others.

Well Leonard was very competitive and cocky in his own way. I don't know why he didn't jump on Duran when he disrespected his wife though.Well, what was Leonard going to do about it? Because he doesn't have a huge temper, nor street fighting skills. He's a great fighter in the ring, but out of it, it's a whole different story. Trevor Berbick bad mouthed Holmes's wife, so Larry went out side and f'd him up, then finished it off by drop kicking him in the head. Now, Holmes was/is a great fighter, he grew up doing it, and he had the temper to go along with it. Same with Duran.Well Leonard was very competitive and cocky in his own way. Leonard didn't grow up on the streets like they did, and he wasn't involved in tons of street fights. Ray could beat the piss out of an average joe, but if you take someone like Duran to the streets, unless you're in the same boat street fighting wise and skill/toughness wise, you're done for out on the curb. I think Leonard knew if he hit Roberto, he would get completely destroyed, so he just waited till he got in the ring where it had to be clean. Smart move IMO.

You gotta couple seconds to knock the person out and its not that hard to knock someone out if you're a boxer up against someone who doesn't box or do anything. They may grab a weapon but you should be quick enough to knock him unconscious. Bare knuckle to the chin will do to trick.

Think of it this way. You train your reflexes and you train your punching power. They do nothing but sit on their ass and eat whatever they want. They tire quicker and you can go for 4 or more 3 minute rounds. You know where to hit someone and HOW to hit someone.

Well iono what weight class you're in but i'm taught to be quick on my feet and i have a lot of speed. They can't bring down what they can't catch
