In a recent interview with Primera Hora, former champion Felix "Tito" Trinidad is willing to come out of retirement to fight Oscar De La Hoya in a rematch, but only if the fight is at 160-pounds.
Trinidad, who hopes one day to become a promoter and help develop more fighters from Puerto Rico, wants to one day work together to achieve that with De La Hoya's company, Golden Boy Promotions.
"I would like to be able to sit down with him (De La Hoya). We spoke recently in Puerto Rico and we speak of boxing, but never that we are going to do promotions together. I he would like that we be able some day to converse and to discuss the possibility of working together if I become a promoter".
Rumors have come about that Trinidad is waiting until his contract expires with promoter Don King in order make a return under the Golden Boy Promotions banner, which Trinidad says is not true.
"At no moment in my career have I had problems with Mr. King, in the same way that a lot of other boxers have had. If I were to return, I would do it with Mr. King. The rumors that I am waiting to finish the contract with King is not true. If Tito Trinidad were to return to boxing, it would be with my father, Félix Trinidad Sr., and the promoter would be Don King, not Golden Boy Promotions."
"De La Hoya knows that I cannot get under 160-pounds. It all depends on Oscar, that he accepts the weight of 160-pounds and the conditions. The first time we fought on September 18, 1999, I won it. I am healthy and I had many hard battles, but if Oscar gives me one more opportunity, I would have one more bout with Golden Boy and once again retire."
