Im surprised noone else posted about this. After the Floyd Mayweather/Carlos Baldomir fight, decrepid HBO announcer Larry Merchant raised questions about Floyd "boring" the crowd on the way to a near shut-out title performance on saturday night. Floyd, in turn, blasted Merchant saying that he knows nothing about boxing, and that hes just an announcer.

WOW, it was a little surprising to see Floyd flip on him like that, but I completely understood where he was coming from. He just dominated a very strong boxer in Baldomir, and then had that line of questioning as the first thing he heard after a victory? It was a little asanine on Larry Merchant's part, and he certaintly looked a little embarassed in his traditional closing statements of the night.

Larry was wrong for saying that, and probably was drunk off his rear.

Floyd won all 12 rds, it was immpressive as hell to see him make Boldimar miss like that.

You know Larry probably isnt the one who comes up with these questions I am not sure. But I think it was a legit question & Mayweather acted like a bitch.

Mayweather did what he had to do & won convincingly. He did not need to use his uaul excuse that he hurt his hand etc after the fight.

larry only said what the rest of us who were watching were thinking. i like to watch great boxing like that but its starting to get very boring watching floyd doing this for 12 rounds every time he fights.

I agree with Tommy again. Floyd is a good boxer but not a very good performer. And even though Larry was out of line for putting down Floyd for a boring showcase, he was right about it not being a crowd pleasing performance. What Larry should have been talking about was why Floyd was fighting Baldomir at all instead of the other bigger threat with a belt, Antonio Margarito.

i would say larry merchant is a great commentator and has the willingness to confront each fighter and tell them the truth. floyd did wrong for what he said, either way he is the champ and pound 4 pound the best. so why answer a question in a disrespectfull manner. if your so great there is no need to answer such a question. your boxing says it all.

It was a dumb question because Larry didnt think about it at all. He should have known that Floyd is not going to stand in front of a slugger and go toe to toe trading shots with him. He acts like he never saw a floyd mayweather fight before. Look Larry, that is what Floyd does. He is exceptionally quick with not only hand speed, but also movement. If your a "smart" boxer, your not going to put yourself into a situation where youll be taking unnecessary shots. Floyd dominated the fight and frustrated his opponent in Bladomir, so much that Carlos pretty much packed it in after 8 rounds. He was very discouraged looking from then on and knew as soon as the fight was over that he'd lost, by the guesture he made to floyd at the final bell.
The point is, that the gameplan needed for Floyd to beat Baldomir was exactly what he executed, and he did it perfectly. If you wanna see a fight where a fighter has to take brutal punishment to achieve victory, than go watch a Gatti fight. But if you want to see a boxer put on a clinic of how to frustrate an oppent and keep him missing all night, then watch Floyd, because thats what he is, and thats what he will always be. Fast, powerful, precise, and elusive.

Someone give Larry Merchant some smelling salts cause he's out on his feet.

FM is f***ing pussy!!!

Floyd is a ****ing girl purely and simply cos he keeps chasing a fight against a fallen champ (de la hoya) and wont even negotiate with his NO.1 competitor, Ricky Hattan....

Floyd refuses to fight him, and if he really wanted to then he could set it up.....he has everything to lose but therefore has **** all confidence in his over-rated ability....

If floyd never fights hattan, he is not even close to being a legend...closer to being a leg-end

Until the re-broadcast last night I'd somehow missed hearing or seeing the tearful announcement that Mayweather says he's only going to fight one more time. Is he really being this big of a baby, or is this some P.R. B.S.?
