It appears that undefeated WBC junior middleweight champion Floyd Mayweather, Jr. is going to stay retired until the right amount of money comes along to change his mind. There is a lot of momentum in the boxing public for a showdown between Mayweather, 30, and former three-time division champ "Sugar" Shane Mosley.
Mayweather told BoxingScene's Bill Emes that he would fight Mosley if the money is right. But, Mayweather has a problem giving Mosley a sizable share of the overall pot of money and plans to stand by his position based on the money the two fighters have made throughout their careers.
“Here's a guy. You can take all of Shane Mosley's biggest fights. As a matter of fact, we take every fight in Shane Mosley's career. What I made in one night with Oscar, Shane Mosley hasn't made in his whole career,” Mayweather said. “And he fought Oscar twice and he fought Vargas twice. You take his two fights with Vargas, you take his two fights with Oscar and you take his two fights with Winky Wright and his two fights with Vernon Forrest and he still didn't make more than what I made in one night. I still got money coming in from the Oscar fight.”
“Like I said before, Mayweather is a cash cow. Whatever I touch don't turn into gold, it turns into platinum. It's money Mayweather. If the price is right, we can make it happen.”
Mayweather admits that Oscar De La Hoya is the only man that can negotiate with him on the terms of a fight, but he will not even think about negotiating the terms of a fight with Mosley and other potential opponents.
“I set the plateau of the money and what I make. Listen, when I fight fighters I tell them what they get, they don't tell me what I get. They only person that can negotiate with me is Oscar De La Hoya because he's the type of fighter that's in that position,” Mayweather said. “But as far as Shane Mosley and guys like that, guys like that can't even negotiate, talk money with me. I tell those guys 'this is what I'm gonna give you.'
Mosley was one of De La Hoya’s sparring partners for the May 5 scrap with Mayweather, and Floyd did not miss his opportunity to take a shot at Mosley for volunteering his services.
“What do I look like? A guy like Mosley is on 24/7 being a sparring partner. C'mon man, I can't fight a sparring partner. He's a sparring partner. How are you gonna go out there and spar for free and then tell me you want to make the same type of money I'm making. And you haven't reigned undefeated; I've done it for a decade,” Mayweather said.
If you know how boxing works and you understand it like i do, This pretty much sums up the fact that this fight will happen. Now please dont turn this into every other thread about how mayweather is just after money and mosley would destroy him or soemthign like that. Every member here knows how everyone feels about all that. So just tell me, Who do you like, Who do you think will win, and what kind of credit will the winner get.
