Golden Boy Promotions Oscar De La Hoya says that after winning the purse bid against Bon Arum’s Top Rank for the right to stage the WBO super flyweight title fight between the Philippines OPBF champion Z “The Dream” Gorres and champion Fernando Montiel of Mexico “maybe now we can do the Philippines vs Mexico World Cup in the Philippines.”

De La Hoya who signed Gorres and emerging sensation Rey “Boom Boom” Bautista of the famed ALA Gym of respected boxing patron Tony Aldeguer to a promotional deal early this year said in an overseas telephone conversation with Viva Sports/Manila Standard Today, “I am very excited.” He said they could have former WBC super flyweight champion Gerry Penalosa battle reigning WBO bantamweight champion Jhonny Gonzales and pit Jimrex Jaca against Oscar Larios in a featherweight showdown.

De La Hoya praised Jaca for his gallant stand against the classy WBO featherweight champion Juan Manuel Marquez in Hidalgo, Texas last Sunday. De La Hoya said Jaca made “such a great impression with HBO and with the Mexican fans and I’ll tell you one thing, Jaca at 126 pounds will beat anybody and any champion that is out there.”

He said Golden Boy signed a deal with him and they want to make sure he rests after the fight and “we will get him a nice comeback fight and then a fight between him and Oscar Larios which would be a great fight.”

De La Hoya said he spoke to Jaca for a very long time after the fight against Marquez and said Jaca was “very grateful and very happy because of the experience and I think he is going to be a good champion in the future.”
