(LOS ANGELES – March 7, 2008) – Over the course of his storied 10-year career, two division world champion Ricky Hatton has achieved the rarest of feats – becoming a legitimate star on both sides of the Atlantic. Now, as he continues on his quest to be boxing’s best pound for pound fighter, “The Hitman” has aligned himself with Golden Boy Promotions, the premier promotional company in boxing, which he hopes will lead him on the road to the Boxing Hall of Fame in Canastota.

“I’m pleased to be working with Golden Boy Promotions and I know that each one of my fights will be bigger than the last, not only for me, but for all of my loyal fans,” said Hatton. “I got a taste of working with Oscar and his team with my fight with Floyd Mayweather and they’re a world-class company. They're the kind of team I need to keep me in big fights against the best in the world.”

President of Golden Boy Promotions, Oscar de la Hoya continued, “I’ve always been a fan of Ricky Hatton and it’s an honor to partner with Ricky and Punch Promotions to add him to the Golden Boy Promotions roster. He’s a fighter universally loved by fight fans because of his heart and aggressive style. We’re all expecting even bigger and better things from him in the coming months.”

Hatton’s first fight under this new promotional contract will be announced at a later date.

One of boxing’s true superstars, Ricky “The Hitman” Hatton (43-1, 31 KO’s) has grown from a local attraction into a member of boxing’s pound for pound elite. A proud native and resident of Manchester, England, Hatton won his first world title, the WBU crown, in 2001 and defended that belt an amazing 15 times. But it wasn’t until he stopped Kostya Tszyu for the IBF and Ring Magazine junior welterweight titles in June of 2005 that he truly broke out onto the world scene. Later in 2005 he added the WBA title to his collection by knocking out Carlos Maussa and by 2006 he won the WBA welterweight title by defeating Luis Collazo in his first fight in the United States since 2000. Hatton has since made the US his second home, defeating Juan Urango and Jose Luis Castillo here. In his most recent fight, Hatton fell short of victory against the world’s best pound for pound fighter, Floyd Mayweather in one of the year’s biggest events. After a short vacation, Hatton is chomping at the bit to get back in the ring and reaffirming that he is the best 140-pound fighter in the world.

Oscar can't creep down to 147 anymore and RIcky at 154 (or a 150 catchweight) would look horrible. That would be a stupid fight and I'd boycott it.

I would have no problem watching Oscar massacre Hatton. I'll pay for the PPV

Well I hold Ricky in incredible regard and seeing him duped into a fight at a weight he can only compete at with B level opponents would be wrong. Oscar is World Class and Ricky at that high of a weight has only the hope of landing one of his crisp left hooks to the liver. That is all that could save him.

Of course he wouldnt look so horrible, Ricky Fatton walks around with 180 pounds, sucking up 30 pounds sounds good enough. The only thing is taht the fight wouldnt be competitive at all. But the same way I watched fights like Jones x bums I would watch it

But he's in horrible shape at that weight! THe dude is 5' 6" tall. 140 is the perfect class for him and he should never think above it.

The only thing that suck with Ricky is his weight class is pretty weak. If he is worried about making money he has no choice but to go up in weight.

Ricky made enough change against Floyd to not have to fight anymore if he so chooses to.

well duh. But I dont think he is truly worried about making money. He found a good deal and took it. He still loves to box and appreciates the fans. I think VD's issue with Ricky is that RIcky's white. Seriously.

Nah. Sergio Mora is Mexican-American. I don't like him. Paulie Malignaggi is Italian. I can't stand the punk. Vernon Forrest and Ishe Smith are black. I pray they get knocked out. Pongsaklek Wonjongkam is Thai. I thought he was a joke of a champion when he had the belt.

I'm going to remember you stated that. I don't want any of this "Oscar is passed his prime" or "Oscar is too old" come september. :cheeky4:

This is no suprise to me at all, this one was always comeing imo. Oscar promoted the fight v Floyd and he was by Hatton's side all the way and there were no mention or sighting that I can remember of Ricky's former promoter Dennis Hobson about.

Preaty sure Juan Lazcano is a Goldenboy fighter aswell which he looks set to face in May. I Hope Oscar's 3 fight plan will be Malignaggi, Torres and Witter but id imagine the 3rd would be Pac next year.

Oscar isnt too old, but hes past his prime. He still is a worldclass boxer, both him and mosley are past their primes but they're still good
