With Hopkins hinting of coming out of retirement, what fight would further or better his legacy? Calzaghe or Maskaev?

IMO, hands down, a win over undefeated super middleweight Joe Calzaghe would be huge in defining Hopkins HOF career and legacy. Plus, by all accounts this would be a "super fight" and a matchup many boxing fans today would love to see.

On the other hand, a win(and hopefully dominating performance) over Maskaev would be impressive but not unprecedented(RJJ) and surely not as big a win over Calzaghe.

Thoughts on Hopkins' legacy and who you would want to see him fight.

Anytime you beat an undefeated champion that says something about that fighter. With that being said I would like to see Hopkins fight Calzaghe. Maskaev is good but I see Hopkins beating him hands down but against Calzaghe it would be more of a battle, which is good entertainment.

I would like to see him stay retired. Unless he fights Maskaev in Sacramento so I can go

I really would like to see him stay retired he has nothing to prove or much to gain.

He doesnt needa huge win to define his HOF career. if he did , I think he just had it anyway in the Tarver fight. Remember how many people thought Tarver was to big & gonna beat Hopkins?

I think he would have a good chance at beating both but no need to try it. Stay retired & see you at the HOF in 5 years or so.

i like hop but he would not have beaten calzaghe even when he was in his prime.

hop was offered 4mill to fight joe in 2001 but flat refused it joe would be the first guy to stop hop and permintly retire him.

I disagree. Hop could deinitely take Calzaghe to the shed out back. I would love to see him come out one final time and show this guy who's who. Remember, Hop has EASILY fought the tougher opposition in his career.

i disagee. calzaghe is faster stronger punches harder has better movement and a solid chin he wouldn't have lost to jermain taylor either.

this is the fight joe's wanted for the last 6 years and would do to hop what he did to lacey, JOE IS THAT GOOD. i would say that he's the best fighter
p4p at the momment.

There is no way in hell Calzaghe is #1 P4P.

And if he wanted the Hopkins fight so bad the last 6 years why didnt he get it? He wants everyone to come over there etc. He needs these fight more than these guys need him. Hamed came to the U.S. & got a fair shake in all his fights.

He say he will fight Hopkins in the U.S. now that Hopkins is retired & past his prime. He coulda came to the U.S. in the last 6 years & made good money to fight him in Vegas or NY.

i love it. this will be proved when joe comes over and destroys hop and taylor and whoever else wants to step up.

i thought the u.s public would no better than to slag off joe after his performance against lacy who would also beat hop and taylor.

Some fighters get better with age and Hopkins is one of them.Calzaghe style of fighting would be more effected by age then Hopkins style. Having said that what I have seen of Calzaghe I would have to pick him over Hopkins at any age.Calzaghe throws to many punches.

Who has Calzaghe beat Lacy is the only name. And if you stop & look back, who did Lacy beat? Was Lacy the #1 pound for pound guy in boxing? I must have missed something. I am not sayin he sucks but I dont think he is in the top 10 pound for pound. Did you watch the fight Saturday?

Lacy was a top super middle I give Calzaghe credit for beating him & beating him bad. But Lacy's resumes top names are Omar Shieka, Robin Reid, Scott Pemberton. Lacy was a belt holder & a good fight for Calzaghe but beating Lacy does not make you pound for pound #1.

Now why fight Hopkins & Taylor? They are middleweights. If you want to name some names why not Kessler or maybe a Tarver, Glen Johnson or Daniel Santos. Clinton Woods & Adamek would also be decent names.

Please stop callin out retired champs & smaller fighters. Tell me who you think Calzaghe beat to deserve to be #1 pound for pound.

Hopkins not only is taller then Calzaghe he has a longer reach.
I think Bernard can easily be a lightheavy. (Remember Tarver?)
I like Hopkins, but let's face it his main fame came from beating small guys_ thin Trinidad(which I picked Hopkins to win) and the bodyshot to DeLaHoya.
I don't want to call that body shot a freako ,but has Hopkins ever ko'd anybody before with that kind of punch or power?
The punch that Gatti put on Leonard Dorin ,now that's a body shot.

He is retired leave him alone. There are plenty of guys to fight.

Hopkins is a HOF'r no matter what you think of his power or who he beat.

joe's had 19 defences and is currently the longest reigning world champ in any division, he's beat the likes of chris eubank, robin reid, richie woodhall, charles brewer, mario viet (twice), omar sheika byron mitchell and of course lacey.

by the way when you say joe shouldn't fight smaller guy's hops last fight he beat the lightheavy champ and could no longer make 160.
and taylor is a massive middleweight who will be on the move up before long, you also mensioned santos name who was a welterweight untill about 4 years ago thjats what i call contradicting yourselff.

Good call,Erik. Calzaghe calls out Jones after a couple KO Losses and BHOP after he retires. Plenty of fighters in his weight range that aren't on their last legs and for which he could make good money, but look for more Bika fights to come.

That list you named looks like the next season of the contenders roster( Besides Lacy)
I dont think Hopkins couldnt make 160 after all those years I think it was the money that lured him up on the way out. ( either way he is retired why dont he call out Sugar Ray Leonard why he is at it)
Taylor is a middlweight.

I was throwing Santos in cause I think he at least fights at super middle now & is not retired. So it least it would be a better name than Bika.

So I dont think I am contradicting myself.

You can say he is a good fighter & the top man in a kinda weak super middlewight division that fine I agree. But dont say he is #1 pound for pound no matter where you live.
