Former WBU junior welterweight champion, and legendary ring warrior, "Irish" Micky Ward has been selected to replace Buddy McGirt as Arturo "Thunder" Gatti's trainer, for his July 14 bout in Atlantic City, NJ. Though Ward has been present in Gatti's corner for each of last six fights, it was only in a supportive role. Come July 14, the two warriors will team up, in what may ultimately be the final fight of Arturo Gatti's historic career. "I'm surprised, but excited at the opportunity to train Arturo. He's a three-time world champion, and this could open up opportunities for me with other big name fighters," Ward stated. Ward and Gatti developed a close friendship following their three epic wars, The first meeting between the two, in which Ward earned a narrow split-decision victory, will forever be remembered as one of the greatest fights in boxing history. Ward and Gatti will depart to the Palm Beach, Florida area on April 29, where they will begin a nine-week training camp.

thats true sportsmanship. I am glad glad to have witnessed all of those historic fights.
those guys are true sportsman to have gone through wars like that and be able to work together. zab, tyson should take note!
I was thinking the exact same thing guys. It's crazy to think that two guys who tried to kill each other are now working together. That's what I love about this story.
It's the same as DLH and Mosley. That has two great fights and then become partners in a company and sparring. It's good to see things like this in boxing. One word, RESPECT!
Yes I agree somewhat but, I think dollar bills had a lot to do with that "partnership."

Of course it has to do with money but would you go in on a business with someone that you don't trust?
If it was for millions more than I was originally making? Yes.

True. I forgot about that. I was just saying that Money is the answer to any question that you do not know the answer to.
